BeyerDynamic owners unite...

Just picked up a DT 880 Pro from ProAudioStar for $208.50 shipped because the B-stock / open box item I was bidding on apparently went out of stock so they offered me a brand new / A-stock version for the same price. I'm super excited but now I need to stop buying mid-tier cans and move on to an HE-500 and LCD2 and then possibly a T1. That said, I'm pretty happy with my mid-tier cans because I think they'll scale well with new amps and DACs: HD600, DT770/Premium/600, DT880/Pro/250, Ultrasone PRO 750.

If you're interested, the open box 880 Pros they are selling for $209 are in brand new condition with full warranty:

Alternative pleather pads for Beyercanners.....

(There are too many beyer threads, n i am not sure if this is reported yet..so i decided to post it here just for added resources ...here goes.)

I saw my spare HM5 pleatherpads lying around, n wahlaaa...it fits my DT770 cans..!!

Nice find! I had a spare pair of these, didn't look like they'd fit. After a little stretching they do!

Going to try them for a bit, but initial impressions are better isolation and more comfortable. I'd only had the HM5's a week or 2 before the 770 80's arrived. Whilst the 770's are not uncomfortable, the Hm5 pads are very nice. When I changed the pads on the HM3's they needed more height, so I made a ring to go behind the pad from foam. I think a 2-5mm foam ring or something similar might keep the original speaker-ear distance well.

Thanks for sharing, i'm thinking the 770's will be awesome cans after some internal damping and a recable.

Just finished my recabling and damping.

Sound better, the bass is tigher, the cabling likely made no difference to the sound, I just wanted to swap the side (entry to my right ear) and a much shorter cable (now about 3ft).

I used a SPOFC cable, braided. horribly microphonic, but its for use with an E17 and laptop, so not really an issue.

I'll post some photos of the works / end results.

Edit: Dubstep is not normally something I listen to frequently, but with the extra damping, the sub bass seems tighter and to move more air creating that subwoofer effect that can be nice. I'm not trying to make these into Darths, but its nice to know they can be improved with a little work.

Brown SPOFC braided cable
Enjoyed my first recabing attempt.

HM5 Pads look the part IMO. Now a right-side entry set.

I'm don't mind the look of the cable but the microphoncs are epic. If i tap my nail on my laptop, the vibration travels all the way through to the right can. Mogami on the way, should be a lot easier to work with.

I own the 531's and the 311's
And Ive just landed a set of 770 premium enclosures on a 770 pro headband.

The 531's are EPIC and next to my HD25's they are my second favourite and
funnely enough they get used more than the 25's due to nearly no fatigue.

The 311's I find kinda funky and light as a set of easy listening portables.
Although now they're more of an ornament LOL.

Now can I get some advice on the 770's...

Drivers?

I want to use them with my iBasso PB2 Pelican and as such they will be getting a Copper Widow Balanced recable from Toxic Cables.
Should I go for the 32ohm, 250ohm or 600ohm?

Anyway, Thought I should join in on this most excellent thread! :)

Just a quick question here, what is the difference between the Premium and Pro versions of the 880 990 ect.. Sound wise are they different of it just a cosmetic thing.?

Same sound. Apart from cosmetic (coil vs straight cable/black vs silver gymbal ... etc) - the only difference is the Pro clamps your head harder than the Pre. Also pre = 32/250/600 Ohm; Pro = 250 ohm (with the exception of Dt770 80 ohm)
