Yeah their shipping charges suck for ordering small needful things that no one else has. But if you're buying a big heavy instrument, the shipping charges suddely become wonderful. You subsidize that guy who got his Fender jazz bass.

Just a heads up to those interested in the DT770/600 ohm because they heard it was well balanced. I recently got mine (just shipped them back), and they were anything but balanced. It appears that their latest version have added bass ports (near the yoke that connects to the cups). The bass ports apparently weren't in the DT770/600 before.

I definitely got the 600ohm.

In any case, with the bass ports now being in the 770s (at least on mine), it added a ridiculous amount of bass into the sound. It pretty much reminded me of the 770 Pro 80, but with a more present mid range. Still, the bass was near headache inducing.

Covering up these hole drastically reduced the bass to something even more bass light than the K701 I owned.

I'm guessing covering just part of the hole (not all of it) would leave a bit of the bass in, without sacrificing it entirely.

On another subject, I'm loving my 990/600 so much that I MIGHT get the 32ohm version in the future to use when I'm away from my desktop setup, and pair it with my E7 portable amp. I know it's not the exact same, but I doubt the sound will be significantly different.

Not getting it anytime soon, but something I'm considering.

Stupid phone. Can't edit the long post.

I meant to say the 770/600 I received brings out bass even where WOULDN'T be much of it.

They honestly can't be compared. The 990s bass is quick and punchy, yet strong. The 770s was heavy, slow, and thunderous. As a basshead, I would have been happy with the 770s, but I already got the bass I wanted with my 990s. The 770s would make unbassy songs bassy. It brought out way too much of the low end. Hell, with pink noise, you could hear how emphasized the low end was. That's not normal even with bass heavy headphones.

On a scale, I'd say the QUANTITY of bass is:

990/600: 8/10. While the 990s are bass emphasized, the bass doesn't just come out of nowhere. It's like a more musical and fun 880. I always say this is a headphone for audiophiles that want more bass than their normally analytical headphones.

770/600: 10/10. A LOT of bass. Bass all the time even when there normally be much of it.

770/600 closed port holes: 2/10. Bass anemic. I'd honestly say that it has more bass presence than the AD700, but not as much as the K701 (which is a 4/10 for quantity IMHO).

880/32: 6/10. Punchy bass that appears when it's called for. Not 'fun'. Just very balanced IMHO.

770 Pro 80: 10/10 (a crapton of bass. Probably as much as my 770/600)

Quality:

990/600: 10/10 (quick, strong, but clean. I still don't believe the bass it has for an open headphone. The bass that made me give up being a basshead, because it's so controlled and refined.)

770/600: 7/10 (slightly better controlled than the Pro 80)

770/600 closed port holes: 9/10. With the lack of bass, everything was very balanced. Would be pretty much a perfect headphone if it had 880 type bass.

DT880/32: 9/10. Fantastic bass quality, although not as much as I'd like. Very present and evened out with the rest of the sound. Quick and punchy. Bass boost would make them sound like 990s with a smaller soundstage.

770 Pro 80: 5/10 (smeared and sloppy).

Lol my phone screwed up the order of my posts. What. My previous post was what Navarro saw.

Somehow I edited it over it with my response (which I know I did not do).

Anywhoo.

Seems like we're doing the opposite. You going for the 600ohm next, while I go for the 32ohm next... lol.

Actually, I just got a manufaktur MMX300 (DT770 premium 32ohm as I understand) and it's bass light. And it has bass reflex holes near the yoke!

I made a pad rolling and mods thread here:

When I put my DT990s pads on the DT770, the bass was gone. It was the combination of the 770's pads and the holes on the cups that gave the 770s their ridiculously bassy sound. I put the 770's pads on my 990s and it made it sound super bassy and muffled.

Perhaps your pads may be giving the MMX300 their bass light sound.

Are iem's allowed in this thread?? If they are then I have three pairs of beyer's to my name, in fact, to my knowledge I am the only owner of the mmx100 reasonably active on the forum. Also at the moment I have an AMB M3 with nothing to do, maybe a 600ohm beyer would be perfect for it...

Either way, I like them.
