BeyerDynamic owners unite...

I just got a pair of 600 Ohm DT 880. I am new to Beyer sound and to Beyer thread, so I would ask for apology if this hase already been discussed.

May be I am too used to my AKG K701 but these DT 880 sound a bit tight and dark to me and in the same time a bit harsh on the highs. Is it a burn-in issue? Does it change? How long does it take to burn-in? (for K701 this a takes a real long time)

They need a good 150 hours break in. The 600 ohm 880's shouldn't sound bright after that amount of time. They will sound different from K701's - IMHO, much better

As a new member of the club, I'd like to say hey. I bought a vintage DT 480 on a whim, and absolutely love them and their sound sig. Here's a review if you're interested.
They sound better every time I wear them, in fact I'm contemplating selling my K701's now.

My broken-in 600 Ohm 880's are my "go to" dynamic phone, the one HP I would rescue in a fire (right after my Spritzer-mod 007's are safe in my hands).

My extended family here has Pro 750's, D2000s, 701s, HD600s, AT2Ks, and GS-1000's ... have listened to them all, a lot, and each has a strength for sure, and for some genres beat the 880/600's. But "all around" for a (semi)open phone the 880/600's take the gold.

But is it all about to change? We just sent everything out to be modded and balanced. Darth/Larry/Headphile did the 880's, and he emailed me that they sound fantastic ... currently enroute. Markl/Lawton Audio says he has transformed the D2000's into "something else" and they now play on a new level ... can't wait for the smackdown.

All the others have had work done too. Stefan/Equinox/Grado Labs did the GS1000s, Drew/moon-audio did the 750's, Headroom the 701s, and APS is working on the AD2K's. Got Zu balanced for the Senns HD600.

When I get a balanced source and amp all sorted the battles will begin anew. Then the dynamic winner takes on the Stax (assuming it wins the stat contest -- we are [trying to] carefully restore a vintage HE60 that we liberated from a home that apparently houses heavy smokers, plastic-chewing tigers, and alien leather eaters).

I am perplexed

about the 600 Ohms version.

They are a little less transparent and airy, a bit dark for my taste. However it's just my first impression, so let's no jump to conclusions. The burn in is in progress.

I'm sorry, but until you're willing to make a serious commitment to Beyer phones, the best we can offer you is provisional membership status.

Burn 'em baby, burn 'em. The sound will change. Your opinion will change.

Brand new to Beyerdynamic's beautiful sound. Welcome me!

A question,

Would I be happy using a Little Dot III,
or should I move up to the LD4+SE or WooAudio3+ level of amps.

I found that these are driven (in sound volume) from my macbook, easily past an enjoyable level. I am assuming that the 250ohm nature of these cans means they are somewhat easily driven? What is naturally considered a high impedance, hard to drive, headphone (both in sound volume, and soundstage)

[ps. I am not sure if my vocabulary is entirely correct]

Hi, and welcome

250 ohms is considered a somewhat high impedance. While they may be "loud" driven by your computer, they will sound better with a proper amp. The WooAudio 3+ would be an excellent choice.
