AKG K702 65th Anniversary Edition

I wouldn't hold my breath on that. AKG is certainly behind the rest of the brands in terms of a flagship (HD800, T1, LC3, etc). The problem I have with the K702 is that they squeak when they rub against my glasses. For some reason some headphones have this (such as these as well as the HD6x0) but most I do not have an issue with. I probably would keep them a bit longer.

Oh, I won't argue that at all.  I just think if they really wanted to they could probably engineer something that would compete with other top phones and I guess it bugs me that they choose not to.  I think the 65th Anniversary is a step in the right direction from previous models but not a huge step up.  I'm hoping it's just them testing the market with slightly different design philosophies.

I really think they have the engineering expertise to pull it off.  Just not the funding.  I just try to throw the idea out every now and then in hopes that maybe someone from Harman lurks the forums and picks up on it as customer interest.  I'm sure I'm not the only one here who would love to see a truly competitive top end flagship to restore faith in AKG.  I realize though, it's mostly wishful thinking at best.

I assume you have a titanium frame for your glasses, right? Had the same trouble with the HD 650 and as the K 702 came in I was like Oh Noooo.. not again!!!. I had some black heat shrink tube on hand and put that on the glasses earpieces right where the pads touch the frame. Tada... no more squeaking at all! And it is nearly invisible for others.

Woooow... But what to do tho. You you buy the Annie's now or wait until the K712 drop with the thicker bottom end.

Does anyone know how much the k712 will be or when they come out? They really sound promising. That legendary AKG detail but finally with the bass level a lot of us have been asking for.

So conflicted!!

Thanks,

The K612 is interesting as I don't think the K601 ever received that much attention here at Head-Fi.

Still, I can't help but feel a bit disappointed. These seem like yet another rehash of the K701 design... how many times are they going to change the colors/pads/driver eq and call it a new product?

Bah.
