Can someone who has tried German Maestro GMP 8.35 D comment on whether the k550 is better to their ears or the 8.35D?

Interesting, the GMP are still some what of an underdog... after all these reviews I doubt that the K550 has anything to offer except their great looks. (Peaky Treble, recessed mids)

The K550 IS a good headphone. It's competitive with other offerings like the D2000/D5000, Z1000 etc, just not my flavor (prefer darker cans). It isn't just something that looks good, it's a pretty good sounding can too.

Mids aren't recessed IMO, just neutral. If it reminds me of any other headphone, I'd say it reminds me of a laidback SRH940 with wider soundstage,

That is true, the reason why I am reconsidering the k550 is because headroom have recently gave 19.75 out of 20. I know they are selling them and they cant talk crap about what they are selling but they generally produce fair review.

it could be a matter of preference, but to me K240 never came even close to K701 in terms of sound quality. i ended up selling k701 in favor of hd600 only because senns are more versatile (and more bassy as well)

OT: a Sextett in good condition (and with enough amplification) outperforms the DT880 and K601 in many ways, and they come close to the HD650. At least my LP version does.

Absolute pants i'm sorry.

Please try the k550 first. Treble is as flat as your gonna get. No rollof, no peak. Mids are beautiful - not recessed like the denons and not aggressively forward. Only a lack of punch, energy and dynamics with quite thin notes may make this can sound a bit boringish to some.

The k550 smashes in sq many other closed headphones.

Interesting, you've been quite convinced by the SQ quality of the K550, makes me wanna listen to them. This is basically what I was looking forward, but most reviews and the massive delays made me lose my interest in them. Now, I really want to listen to them.

You're right about the slighyly bad reception on headfi of these headphones. There are quite a few positive reviews though. Main problem is there's just hardly been any reviews at all!

If isolation and non leakage are not important, then there's no need to be interested in the k550's. They have an impressive sound for closed headphones only.

try some vintage K240 Sextetts (MP) or even better:

any of the older Sennheiser Flagships, HD580/600/650 and you will trash her like a used tissue.

Tried both the HD650 and 600, sold them and still own my K701.

Currently talking to an Australian store about trialing a pair of K550s. Hope my expectations aren't setting me up for disappointment.

Please let me know how you like it. I love the k70x series. I really want to buy the k550 but I am fearing it will be just another bass headphone. Can you please let me know how closely the bass resembles that of the k701 if you do ever get a chance to try them?

Thanks in advance.

They pair nicely with a small portable amp like the AT-PHA10.

63 pages and I didn't see any formal reviews!!
Are there none?

I'm thinking of acquiring these... just to check them out (probably buy them from Crutchfield just in case...)
