Crack;Bottlehead OTL
The Crack works well with my DT990s (600 ohm) and sounds terrific (as many others have remarked) with my Senn HD-650s. It actually doesn't sound bad with my HF-1 grados, or my RS-1s; but as others have remarked as well, it's not the best match. Other amps I own sound better.- hypoicon

RSS Feed
Another issue: why would I care to read an entry every time a post is edited? Can someone please turn that off? There were over one thousand rss entries in a 24 hour period because every time a keyword is added or a person edits their profile it shows up on the feed. How about a feed with new...- hypoicon

RSS Feed
I'd like to throw a giant "me too" on the fire. The current feed is useless without excerpts, and I was about ready to unsubscribe to the previous version as well because of the massive volume. Forum specific feeds would fix my complaints, as long as they provide excerpts. RSS is hit or miss on...- hypoicon

Upgrade Time
Personally, I think the MK III is a fine amp, just not with HD650s. I still use mine with my Grados, but I bought a CIaudio VHP-1 and VAC-1 to go with my HD650s. Much better there, but overall I still prefer the Little Dot/Grado combination. I think you're headed the right direction in...- hypoicon

I love the cold weather. You too?
I grew up near the desert, and so I got really tired of heat (100f+ for thirty days straight or more). It was -5f when I woke up this morning, and now I think it's positively springlike at 21f. It isn't really cold to me unless it goes below zero. 0-20 just feels crisp. I like it.- hypoicon

Typing one handed or: How I Learned To Be Careful On A Snowy Evening
It's amazing how much those fingers are important to hand function though. About twenty years ago my pinky had an altercation with a 30" guillotine paper cutter. The finger survived, but it severed the tendon. Got taken by an ambulance to the ER, but then had to drive my stick shift to the hand...- hypoicon

I forgot to mention that my use is almost exclusively lossless files. People who own high end DACs still listen to MP3s? Sheesh.- hypoicon

Apple Airport Express - Streaming Spdif
I use both the newer and older express units around my house. The new "N" units are definitely better-- fewer dropouts and connection problems in my experience, using a dual band airport base station. In general, there are a lot of stability issues. It's hard to say how it will work out for you...- hypoicon

Worst Neil Young Album
I love both Reactor and Trans-- Reactor is probably my favorite album behind Tonight's the Night. Worst-- well, no contest: Landing on Water-- that will always be the LOW spot for me. -
Wadia 170i vs. Dedicated Macbook with usb cord upgrade>?
I've run my MacBook Pro through usb and optical toslink to the PS Audio DAC, and neither can touch the sound of the Wadia with my Ipod touch. Just my opinion, but the computer sounds like absolute crap compared to the coax-digital hookup from the wadia/ipod combo. USB is the worst on that DAC...- hypoicon

AudioEngine A5's or Mackies Mr5....can't decide..
I use the MR5s in my basement. They are loud and a bit tubby in the bass, but work great for me -- I can hear them over my table saw. I use a passive NHT volume control with them, and the balanced input. They are very flexible as far as hook-up goes, and the rear port is not a problem if you...- hypoicon

Props to Channel Islands Audio - My Great Experience
Happy to hear this. I had a similar experience with Wadia recently-- my 170 transport's craptastic coax connector snapped off under the load of a boutique cable and they fixed in gratis and quickly.- hypoicon

Anyone use the iTrip?
I used one for several trips across the US. It worked ok, but in many metro areas there was a lot of noise-- especially Kansas City, as I recall. With fiddling it was serviceable, but there were constant problems with ignition noise and external interference. It's convenient, but don't...- hypoicon

Little Dot MK III with headphone
I'm currently enjoying my MK III with Grado Head-F1 HF-2s and it sounds fabulous. Deep extended bass on this combo really astounded me and they haven't left my head since the new phones arrived. Liked the amp with my RS-1s too. But it just can't cut it with my Senn HD-650s; for that combination...- hypoicon

The Grado HF2--It's For Real
Typ0s happen. It's amusing to listen to the pedants rant about it, often with misspellings in their posts. True, it should ave ben caught. But sht happens, and this doesn't effect the sound/value to me. I'm dissapointed, yes-- but as much dissapointed with the need to engrave "head fi" on...- hypoicon

is a portable amp necessary?
I have 530s and an iBasso amp-- I never bother to connect the two, because for me the difference is nearly nonexistent. Depends on the phone, I'd say-- and the 530s don't really benefit from an amp imho.- hypoicon

Good cigarettes?
I used to smoke Camel and Newport myself, now thanks to zyban and an understanding spouse I'm no longer a junkie. It's amazing what life is like without constant cravings. Smoking was fun for the first twenty years or so, then after that the drug-addict side of it (and social pariah part)...- hypoicon

What a reissued CD find - The Rockets - music from my teenage years!!
Bought this one from a cut-out bin in the mid eighties. Never thought much of it. It just goes to show you, one man's trash is another's treasure.
