Kenwood Media Keg---> One of the best sounding DAPs in current market. Keg with Shure 530 was the best combination I've ever heard in portable gears so far. If you dont mind the cost and the size of the player, you won't regret it.

I had a chance to compare couple of sony Walkman Mp3 players, iPod Classic 5.5, D2, and Keg. I've used shure 530 and Kenwood Media Keg was a clear winner. I'm not sure if anyone can find a better DAP player without an extra amp.

Yes, CyclonDS is quite impressive. My friend has one and he's pretty happy with it. For SQ alone, I dont think Ds wll be anywhere near Sony Walkman though.

They both can be obtained within your budget, but I would try 10.fi before you plunge your money for custom as you wont be able to sell them easily if they turn out to be something other than what you are looking for in sound.
