I didn't hear much difference between the pads, maybe a little more isolation from the 840s.

I have the SRH440 and going with the 840s pads will make them a lot more comfortable. Highly recommended!

It does isolate pretty good, I use my srh440 to commute. Unfortunately, I found that it's uncomfortable to use them when I'm wearing my raybans wayfarers, the branches of thoses glasses are pretty large tought.

Yes, its memory foam sooo comfy and isolates a bit more imo.

I love my ultrasones hfi780 for metal and they isolate pretty good.

I own the 225i and to my ear they had a break in period, they may be a little less aggressive than the 80i, but they will provide much more details wait a week or so before panicking. If those still don't do it for you, than there is no other way but to go for the rs1, gs1000 and ps1000...

Depending on what socially acceptable means, I would have you try out the Shure SRH440 and 840 some Ultrasones might also work for you, I personnally love my HFI780

I sell sennheiser and they have a 2 year warranty, so you could look into getting a new pair if you still have the invoice. They usually accept phones for the problem you metioned.
