pencil fi?
I've been using a Cross Century 0.5mm pencil for 7 years and frankly, I wanted to retire it from front-line duty and began looking for another pencil... none of the budget pencils I got afterwards came even close to cutting it (I'm in engineering, and have to conjure up pages and pages of...- p956lh

new headphones for university
My suggestions would be the HD25, M50, and the K271. The HD25 and M50 are really well built (and the M50s fold), but I find that I worry too much about bending AKG K2xx headbands when I carry them around.- p956lh

For Those Who Think 1st Gen Ipod Shuffle Sounds Great
I still have my 1st Gen Shuffle and I think they sound fine, except for the levels of hiss, which drives me nuts. Same thing with the 2nd gen shuffle. The Clip and Fuze both sound much cleaner than the Shuffle imo, and their headphone-outs are more powerful than the Shuffle's. I don't know if...- p956lh

Do you travel with your Full size high impedance headphones?
There really shouldn't be a problem. I used to carry my radio-controlled racing cars and all its supporting gear (which includes a big power supply unit and a charger... surely they would look interesting under the x-ray scanner) along with in my checked-in luggage all the time, no problems so...- p956lh

Definitely a good Sextett. I go back home after a long day and listen to some Liszt through them, and everything's alright again.- p956lh

What do you while you listen?
During the day I study/surf/think up of more car design ideas (I'm in a Baja SAE team) while listening to music. And I also do about 10-20 minutes of listening to some calming classics in the dark (with the Sextetts) before I sleep.- p956lh

D1001 vs. M50 vs. DT770/80
M50 would do well with an amp. The bass becomes much more controlled. And yes, if you have a normal-length neck, you can wear it around the neck easily. And I'd agree that they don't sound fatiguing at all. I've got a Sextett LP at home (which most people consider to be very...- p956lh

study shows that young people PREFER mp3s to uncompressed music
Funny thing actually... I grew up taking classical piano lessons (so I have somewhat trained ears), and when everyone was switching to the iPods and stopped carrying CD players (when I was 14-15), I kept using my portable CD player (and genuine audio CDs) because I couldn't stand the way my...- p956lh

ATH-M50 Vs. DT 770
M50 = coiled cable. M50s = straight cable. I haven't heard the DT770 but I own an M50 and I really like it. It's fun enough as an everyday headphone.- p956lh

Shure E2c (scl2) vs. Senn CX300
e2c's bass is just reaaallly tight, and that's after nearly a year of using them and finally getting a good fit (using the medium flex sleeves), and it's got a tiny soundstage. On the plus side, Shure's warranty rules, and isolation is excellent...- p956lh

Headphone Sightings 2
On the engineering half of the campus (McGill), almost everyone wears infidel headphones. I've only seen a few low-end Senn HDs (437, 497, 201, 202) worn unamped, and a guy walking around with a K141. I don't see any decent IEMs around either. I guess most engineering guys (except me) just don't...- p956lh

need help for upgrade from k271..what to chose??
Depends on which version. I think the 880 can be bought with 80, 250, or 600 ohms impedance. A portable amp should be able to drive the first two properly.- p956lh

Grados SR80 or the Sennheiser PX 100?
I own the PX-100, and I'm surprised how much it improves with amping. I didn't like listening to them unamped because the bass is just so boomy and it just ruins songs with slow bass lines. It's actually a pretty good rock can when it's amped. I have never tried an SR-80, but people keep on...- p956lh

PX100 vs. PX 200
Senn HD25-II (one of the best closed cans around), Senn HD280 Pro (good isolation weird sound sig though), ATH-M50 (pretty good monitoring cans that do fold), ATH-ANC7 (one of the better noise canceling cans), and the AKG K271 (closed studio monitor that sounds pretty good) are all somewhat...- p956lh

PX100 vs. PX 200
The PX200 has a weird sound sig imo. It's got not bass impact (even though it's a closed can) and it just sounds weird and tinny next to the PX100, which is way too bassy when unamped. They do fold up nicely though, and there's no closed phone better at that price range... although if you can...- p956lh

Audio-Technica Headphones
M50s are pretty good for the price. I've got one as my general-purpose can. It's pretty musical and fun, with a rather polite sound sig when amped.- p956lh

Shure E2C really that bad?
They're alright as portable phones. Most people don't like them because they aren't "fun" (the bass is very tight) and it has a tiny soundstage. But it's fine for portable use or if you need the isolation. Besides at $40 it's a steal, and Shure's warranty is awesome. I honestly don't think...- p956lh

4-channel circuitry?
Hi guys, I'm having an argument with a friend of mine about 4-channel circuitry in a headphone amp. Since I don't think 4-channel circuitry means a 4-channel output on a headphone amp, what... in layman's terms, does having 4-channel circuitry (like in some of the Xin and Headstage amps)...- p956lh

Sennheiser HD-280 best choice for closed cans for iPod?
Second the ATH-M50. Definitely not as weird-sounding as the HD280, quite musical (especially when amped, but it's fine unamped) and looks a whole lot better (not as plasticky as the 280). And they're very comfy They don't isolate as well as the 280 though...- p956lh
