I want to love my Grado SR325i, but I can't
I also had the 325i for a while but sold them because I just couldn't bear all the things your describing, I probably would have ruined my hearing if I would continue to use them. And I also tried the flats and it didn't work at all, in fact it made things worse. They did however fit quite...- alpeggio

Head-fi and BOSE
My car has BOSE Speakers in it and honestly I ain't that impressed by the sound. The bass is pretty much non existent and there's no punch whatsoever for rock music.- alpeggio

AKG 701 vs Grado 325i (or any other headphone)
I also have the 325i and involving would fit the description. You really are at the edge of your seat listening with these. It's really all about what your hearing is like. You should pick the headphones that pair with your ears the best. Seenheiser are mellow sounding and not as aggressive as...- alpeggio

It will not work. If you cover the outside it will sound like crap. If you want quiet headphones buy closed cans.- alpeggio

The Sennheiser "veil"
Grado's is nice because you can veil your music yourself with flats when it becomes too fatiquing. With senns they are veiled all the time which some people might find disturbing. The good thing about the "veil" is that you can have higher volume without hurting your ears.- alpeggio

sr80s treble
I have those, great headphones. The upper treble can be harsh (crash cymbal) but there's really not a problem with distortion unless you turn up the volume too much, which you shouldn't do.- alpeggio

Should I give up on Grado already?
Thinking about how cheap I got these I wouldn't want to swap for anything definetly not SR225. I'm actually at two sides of the fence at the same time because I like the brightness and do not like it at the same time. That's why this pad swapping sounds great for I will be able to change...- alpeggio

Should I give up on Grado already?
I have Grado SR325i and SR80. And they can be fatiquing at times especially the SR325i, (higher mids) the SR80 is worse with upper treble. I find stuff like ACDC or hard rock generally doesn't sound that pleasing to me. It's hard to hear the detail and separation when the mids are so strong...- alpeggio

woo just ordered my new grado's
Good purchase. I would recommend the Grado's with the bowls removed altogether. Boy does that sound sweet or not! Actually it's sounds like crap though so don't try that. Anyway I also bought the 414 pads, 2 pairs. They haven't arrived yet, still waiting.- alpeggio

The Sennheiser "veil"
I have bought my first pair of high end phones just recently (Grado 325i) and I do agree on them being harsh in the lower-upper registers. I have to use a equalizer when listing, just drop the 2 khz frequency because I can't stand it otherwise. But the sound is freaking detailed. You do notice...- alpeggio
