true adudiophile card?
Another vote for the Echo range. I've had both the original and later versions of the Gina - mostly for music production, but the sound is great. Loved them both. Simple and do the business.- arto

Whats better DT770 or DT770Pro/80
The general consensus isn't always backed up by actual experience, however. Many people have found the new model to have a slightly weightier mid-range, which is no bad thing. Also, the heavier clamping on the "pro" model may be less comfortable for long listening sessions. The consumer Beyers...- arto

I think I have tinnitus...
I have had tinnitus continually for about 15 years, as a result of one too many loud concerts. Mostly it's fine - it sounds like distant cicadas. It's worst at night when there are fewer other sounds around. I'm comforted by the fact that it doesn't seem to have affected my high-frequency...- arto

How is the 32ohm and 250ohm DT770 different?
Apparently not. However, if they're not being driven decently (say by a portable source) then you may notice a difference. I have the 32 ohm variety by the way. They're sweet (especially after a looong burn-in).- arto

Binaural DVD soundtrack
The movie is a highly regarded classic of Aussie cinema. And this isn't just some gimmick for the DVD - the sound was actually recorded binaurally in the first place using mics taped to the actor's head. Which would explain the odd sound on the Australian DVD - sounds move in and out of the...- arto

Binaural DVD soundtrack
I think this may be a first ... the classic Australian black comedy Bad Boy Bubby has just been released on DVD in the UK by top-drawer arthouse merchants Eureka and contains what is described in the Guardian as "a strange, binaural headphone audio option which attempts to place the viewer...- arto

Ultrasone Proline 750 or DT770/32 or A900?
Let me put in a word for the 770/32. Contrary to some opinions expressed here, these cans do not require an amp or take a lot of current to drive. I wonder how many of these opinion leaders have actually tried these cans. In terms of sheer volume, I run mine at a decent volume out of a Gina 3G...- arto

DT880 software emulation?
Hi, I'm really curious to hear the new DT880. Of course, here in darkest Swansea there is nowhere to go to audition such a beast. I do own the 2005 DT770 however, and wonder, since the drivers are related, whether it's possible to use EQ to get a near-enough emulation of the 880 sound...- arto

Beyerdynamic DT770 / 80 Ohms vs DT770 / 32 Ohms
Nobody can gainsay Skylab with his huge experience of DT-model cans, but for an alternative view, here's what Headroom have to say about the new DT770 (250 ohm version): The recessed mid-ranges of yore have also been nicely beefed-up and are now significantly better-detailed to our ears than...- arto

DT770 (2005+) vs. HFI-700
I have the 32 ohm DT770. I haven't heard the Ultrasone so can't make a direct comparison. I do have Grados (with flats not bowls) and don't find them in the least overbright, so you can draw conclusions from that! I would say that with the DT770s you get a fairly crisp, forward upper register...- arto

beyer DT770 Pro? or non pro
The pro cans look a bit different and have a greater clamp, as I recall. As for people recommending the 80 ohm cans as sounding better than the 32 ohm cans: firstly, this seems be a bit of 'received wisdom'; not many people here have actually A/Bed them both (Skylab is one of the few). More...- arto

Grado SR60 -> DT880 or?
You could sidestep the amp issue altogether by ordering the 32ohm version of the 880 from Meier Audio or the Beyer Manufaktur site. Also, I went from Grados to Beyers (in my case, 125s to 770s). So not an exact analog, but the brand characteristics are present in both. They really are chalk...- arto

DT770 (80) or DT770 (250) with RME Fireface 400
Given you're running the cans straight out of your soundcard the 32 ohm version may end up sounding better for you. I run 32 ohm 770s from an Echo Gina3G with great success. Having said that, there's plenty of juice left over to run a heftier can.- arto

iRiver Clix screen loose?
Hi Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I just bought a Clix for my daughter for Christmas. It turned up in the mail and the box had been pretty bashed about. The Clix had taken a tumble but there seemed no external damage, except the screen is a little loose. Now, don't laugh...- arto
