Mine' the opposite. When I turn down the volume and no music is playing, I hear a radio signal through my headphones. not too much on my K601, but moreso on my Grados.

I'm still trying to decide whether this makes the highs a little less smooth though.

I tried removing the thin piece of foam pad that's sandwiched between the drivers and the donut circumaural pads, and that seemed to bring out the highs and tighten the bass. I haven't heard the k501 which is known to lean towards the top end, but I think this mod brings the K601 closer to Grado...

I'm curious about the K601. I've heard that one of the characteristics of these phones is that they have a treble roll-off compared to the K501 and the K701. Is this only relative to the other AKG phones? Would you say that these are still brighter or "unveiled" compared to the Sennheiser house...
