    Grover UR Review

Just received my Grover UR's and biwired speaker cable yesterday. I'm no longer the tweak-it fuss-budget I was with audio twenty years ago; I just install and let'r rip. The Grovers made an incredible difference. right out of the box. And I was previously using pretty good stuff. Wish I could...

    Head-Fi Writers cramp / burnout / braindead?

People who use terms like "pill pushers" are already convinced there is no easy solution to their depression. To add insult to injury, these same people for some reason find something wrong with the idea of taking a pill. It's a symptom of depression. People who are depressed have no idea what...

    Head-Fi Writers cramp / burnout / braindead?

You need to get on the right dosage of the right antidepressant; trust me. Find a good psychiatrist and get on the right meds. Personally, I would avoid talk therapy like the plague.

    Circuit City service issue

I don't believe Circuit City has a restock fee on TVs. Buy one to use it as a replacement, and return it in 29 days! "Rent" another one if necessary. Those electronics merchants push the extended warranties on you, and then provide lousy service. BestBuy seems to be the worst in this regard.

    Thoughts on Eric Berne?

I guess my only point was that, if one is relatively mentally healthy (and granted, many people are not), one will interact with others in an "adult" fashion as a matter of course. Prozac and related medecines do more than just cure depression (yes, for many it is a complete cure); they can...

    Thoughts on Eric Berne?

Yes, read all the books and did a lengthy term paper on transactional analysis many years ago. My advice: get on a therapeutic dose of Prozac (or equivalent) and completely forget about psychobabble mumbo-jumbo. (PS: I am not being sarcastic here; just shooting from the hip based on my personal...

if you could start your system over

Seems to me the trick is knowing what kind of sound you really want. It takes experience living with a system and changing things around, upgrading, etc., to acquire that knowledge.

    Philosophical discourse on attainable Utopia

Zach- Thanks. I'm quite careful about replentishing the ice cubes in my Cointreau; I find that this particular drink must be kept ice cold. Should my drink become a bit diluted (and it does, on occasion), I merely consider it a sacrifice to the hangover gods, and quickly drain the glass.

    Philosophical discourse on attainable Utopia

Lately I am fond of Cointreau on the rocks; I find that it goes well with most all musical genres.

    Philosophical discourse on attainable Utopia

Sex is over too quick. Money never satisfies. Drugs have awful crashes. Alcohol alone is a utopian endeavor but is not focused. Music alone is nearly always good and is a highly focused activity. Music plus alcohol equals bliss: focused; easilly and readily attainable; exquisite perfection...

    50+ Rocker

I'm 50+ rocker too. Of the more recent stuff, I particularly like Rage Against the Machine and Red Hot Chili Peppers. Don't much care for rap.

    Your gear acquisition philosophy?

Dimitri- I'd go with the speaker-based rig if you have no constraints that dictate you listen to headphones most/all of the time (money, thin wall between you and neighbors, other household members not sharing your passion). Whether you find that a relatively inexpensive speaker rig is far less...

    Obsessive thoughts?

Markl is right on target. Flip- The SSRI's often take 1,2 months or more to reach full effect. No immediate effect (except for side effects or placebo effects) will usually be noticed until at least a week or two. I personally do not believe that talking to a psychotherapist for two weeks or...

Need MP3 advice re Zen Extra

Just bought a 40 gig Creative Zen Xtra. This is my first foray into MP3; sound quality is paramount to me so I've avoided mp3 in the past. All I want to do is rip my CDs and upload them onto the Zen with the best possible sound quality. Space is not a big consideration. I have MusicMatch...

    heads-up : IGN's iHP-120 review

Sweet- amatteroffax is ok; they have great prices and, from my experience, are basically honest. We buy a lot of equipment at work from them. But, they really suck at customer service. If you know what you want to buy, they're great. They prefer all their transactions be done via the internet...

    Blockhead dual mono volume pots?

I agree; I wouldn't buy one without the stepped attens. Would be pointless to buy one without them, as presumably the buyer is going for near state of the art. However, I do a lot of volume adjusting during my listening, and I'm sure the stepped attens would still be a royal pain. Anyone know if...

    Blockhead dual mono volume pots?

2 stepped atten's are still a pain in the ass. I'd rather go with the rubber band.
