Q701 impressions thread
Quote: Yeah in this hobby you really don't want to be cheap unless you are deaf of course ... For anyone looking to buy these cans I recommend to save as much as you think you are willing to spend on a good amp and a separate DAC. The Qs def don't sound that great with the bare minimum...- soundlikes

Here is what I enjoy on the Q's: Roots - their recordings are really good especially the "Undun", the Qs pick up on a lot of details and the soundstage is just right Black Keys - since I got the M-stage I've been listening to all their albums before that not so much, it could be that the...- soundlikes

Here is my setup that I have collected over the last few months: Heavily modified Bravo amp, NFB-12 recently acquired, Matrix M-stage V2 and the Audioengine D1. For the Q701 the Matrix and Bravo definitelly provided enough juice between those two it's really hard for me to say which one is...- soundlikes

Review and discussions - Audioengine D1 24/96 USB and Optical DAC/amp for laptops and computers
Just compared the Audioengine D1 and NFB-12 DACs. To my ears the D1 gives more clarity and bigger soundstage with the Matrix M-Stage/AKG q701. Both the USB and Optical inputs have exactly the same advantage. I am selling the NFB-12, thought it might be better or at least different but it's just...- soundlikes

Quote: Yeah a little bit ... but I can definitely hear the difference. It was my first cable so I just wanted to try something different from what everyone else does :) LOL The RCA cable is not that big of a deal but it improved on SQ from my DAC to the AMP. I found the match for Qs!!!!!!!!! Ok, so this is my current setup Xonar DG(optical out) -> Audioengine D1 (DAC) -> Pioneer RX-521 ...... WOW!!!! B.B. King & Eric Clapton Live has the biggest, most accurate soundstage I have ever heard on these headphones. The Pioneer is an all-in-one...- soundlikes

I wish I had optical out on my Lenovo E420. Yeah laptop is a bummer... I have Audioengine D1 that drives the Qs just fine but I can definitely tell it lacks something. As a DAC the D1 is really good but that is not what you want to pay for the DAC ... I would definitely check ebay for the NFB...- soundlikes

Fudge all this, get the D3 as MadLust said and cheap Xonar. U can have the Xonar DG with opitical out for $17 after rebates on Amazon. Then spend the reset on a good AMP. One that I want to get is DIY Torpedo. If you have the skills and tools it can be built under $300. It is very similar to...- soundlikes
