Samson sr950?
Build quality should be the same. They are made by the same company and likely have the same drivers. I would think the 950 would have better sub bass. The 950 should be more comfortable.- drtturnip

Samson sr950?
They look like a Superlux hd662 which is a very good budget studio can. I have one and really like it. The fabric ear pads should make them that much better.- drtturnip

Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro 80 ohm vs Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro
I believe the reason for no response is that it is not a good comparison to put it mildly. My hd662 Superlux destroy the panasonic in every way but it is not in the same league as the Beyer. You get what you pay for with the Panasonic. Fragile and really don't sound that good after the initial...- drtturnip

Cans vs Speakers pound for pound.
At least you can change a room and move speakers around to find the sweet spot. Not so much the shape, size and neural response of the ear which is the "room" for headphones.- drtturnip

superlux hd 662
If you search a bit you will find lots of information. That being said I have never found a post where someone owned and compared all three variants. I know the B model has more midbass and the F model has less bass than the other two and is brighter at the top. I have the CAD mh310 which is a...- drtturnip

Do you use an Equalizer?
Yes. It seems that all headphones have inherent peaky treble response, some of which is by design. Check the graphs. There is almost always a big dip between 3k and 5k accompanied by a few more dips and peaks and then a sharp rise in the 9k 10k region. I do my best to obtain a flat...- drtturnip

Panasonic htf 600s vs Creative Aurvana Live
If you are willing to spend 60 forget the pans unless you want to replace them in a few months. They break and really don't sound that good.- drtturnip

Has anyone tried Koss ur20 ear cushions on a Superlux hd662?
I noticed that Koss sells replacement ear pads for cheap on their website and the UR20 seems similar in size.- drtturnip

Would this rackmount parametric equalizer work for removing HRTF from headphones?
The Behringers stuff is a great value but they usually compromise the signal path at some point with lower quality dacs or op-amps. It is not audiophile equipment. You might want to consider one of the EMU products which incorporate high quality components and include dsp effects. You can stack...- drtturnip

Mod: increasing the depth of the earpads, does it change the sound?
I think the increased driver distance from the ear changes the sound more than the material used but both must have some effect. My observation is that the upper mid's and highs diminish with distance from the ear.- drtturnip

Are you a Basshead? Or a Treblehead? Or a Midrange head? A Flathead? Or....?
I chose seeking something else. I would have chosen flat but I use EQ to get as flat as I can since we all know there is no perfectly flat headphone.- drtturnip

Help! HD-598 drivers touch my ears!
I had the same problem with my hd595. I cut a length of coaxial cable and put it underneath the pads. Some people stuff rolled up paper towel or use foam.- drtturnip

KRK kns 6400 or 8400. You need a closed headphone with as little leakage as possible and good isolation to get the mic placement right.- drtturnip

Best sub-$50 over-ear headphones?
I would recommend one of the Superlux variants. hd668b, hd662, cad mh310 etc. I would not recommend the Panasonic. They sound pretty good but are too fragile.- drtturnip

My attempt at removing the Sennheiser veil through equalization
Quote: I messed around with this a while back with my hd595 which are similar to the hd558 though probably have more peaks and valleys. I used the eq on my emu patchmix dsp and tone sweeps. +7db @ 4253hz narrow band -5db @3150hz not so narrow band about .75 octave +5.5db @5150hz...- drtturnip

The PANASONIC RP-HTF600-S headphones. More fun than the HD650?
Quote: Not to me. They do have the superlux edge to the top end but I like it. I have the cad mh310 which is a superlux hd662. It is like a closed version of the samson and may have more bass, but I cannot attest to this since I have not heard the samson. Closed phones just generally have...- drtturnip

The PANASONIC RP-HTF600-S headphones. More fun than the HD650?
I have a superlux re-brand related to the samson by blood and I don't think the panasonics hold a candle. They are too fragile and just don't sound as good.- drtturnip
