[mini-review] Quick noob view on SRH 440 (~70$), mostly outlining problems since thats what people care about most
ohh, for a bass head, these headphones are extremely weak on bass lol.. some get the M50 and the EQ it to bass boost even more I find that SRH 440 + Bassboost from E5, or a slight modification on EQ makes it very nice, else, for me, it would be less enjoyable, though not a deal breaker ...- n-ster

[mini-review] Quick noob view on SRH 440 (~70$), mostly outlining problems since thats what people care about most
this is a copy paste from a forum I post in. I am 100% new to headphones, am totally new.... I wanted to outline the problems, so even though it sounds like the SH440 sucks, they really are pretty good, provided that you don't run into these problems, even GREAT Quote...- n-ster

What Headphones Should I Get? ($100-$130)
other popular option in your price range are the srh440 srh840 and 750dj all from Shure. While headphone influence a lot the sound quality, do not forget peripherals like sound cards. An ASUS Xonar DS should do you fine for a small budget. If there is alot of portable use involved, a...- n-ster

What ipod LOD to use, Fiio L1 or L3? to be used with SRH440s and KSC75s
I received my L1, I haven't had the time to really use it, and my headphones and amp are still AT LEAST 1 week to 10 days away before I get them :( On a side note, my KSC75 are great, withstand abuse, and sound great even on bad sources. And Flac files are so much better than mp3 file :O I...- n-ster

New headphones, $150-200, music only, sound isolating, clear sound, no amp
The M50 is boomy bass, the OP said no to that... SRH 840 could be a good option, not that I read the op lol- n-ster

Total Newbie Needs Helps- Are the M50's best option for around $100.
I've heard people prefer the SRH440 over the 840 for balance of sound... never overall though. The SRH840 pads are way more comfy then the 440, and cost 20$ xD- n-ster

not, I'm saying that non-audiophiles prefer fun sound, not the people who prefer fun sound are not audiphiles XD And Compared to the M50, the SRH440/840/750DJ is a more accurate less fun sound You may be right, sometimes better spend more once then twice... but I am not sure if it is...- n-ster

Budget Audiophile Cans
add SRH840 and DJ750 from Shure on your list. I strongly recommend closed can headphones for your use, so no Grados. The Denon D1001 don't have that great of a sound isolation. I would recommend M50's or SRH 840's or DJ750's, but don't take my word for it, research ;) For your ipod...- n-ster

Total Newbie Needs Helps- Are the M50's best option for around $100.
If you are listening from a computer, investing in a soundcard might be wise (something like an ASUS xonar DS), if you are going to listen from an ipod, an LOD and portable amp may be interesting Usually, non-audiphiles prefer a funner sound for music, therefor the M50s may be your best...- n-ster

Yes, but is it worth paying 100% MORE? TWICE the price? I doubt it is for non-audiophiles or non-experiences listeners Also, for example, if his source is an ipod touch, an ipod LOD (Fiio L1 7~8$) and an a cheap amp (Fiio E5 20$, includes bass booster), it would be worth it for him in the...- n-ster

While I kind of understand, why not go the lower grade model? The 750dj or 840 are double the 440s price- n-ster

the choices you got are SRH440s (70$) or the M50 (110$) do you prefer fun sound or more analytic, realistic sound? What is the source? (ipod touch or other or onboard sound on a computer or a soundcard?)- n-ster

Recommendation for iPhone
I suggest you get a Fiio L1 or L3 iPod LOD first and foremost. Then invest in a quality portable amp, or at least any amp (fiio E5 is cheap and has bast booster). Then get some decent headphones. I am guessing this is for portable use? I heard good things about the SRH840, or the AT M50s...- n-ster

Need recommendations for a closed pair of headphones somewhere around 100$?
You're right, I should be more careful... I'm still new to this so I can make mistakes, and this one might be one. Thanks for keeping me in check Though I haven't heard them per say, I have definitively contacted people who have. While I have heard that the M50 are more 'fun' compared to...- n-ster

Need recommendations for a closed pair of headphones somewhere around 100$?
I am in the same situation as you are and here is what I did... Bought the SRH440 for 70$ + Fiio E5 (bass boost makes them much better) for 20$ + ipod LOD Fiio L1 for 7.50$ Overall, the sound will then be better than the M50, especially out of the ipod Touch, and future headphones...- n-ster

Headphone recommendation under $55?
missed the creative aurvana live! at costco :( I suggest you either lower your budget or make it higher.... for 70$, the SRH440s look great, I prefer the RX 700 to the 900, so I'll suggest the 35ish$ RX700 with felt mod, ear pad foam mod and cup stuffing mod, totals like 2$ worth of mods...- n-ster
