Comment by 'goremachine' on listing 'Sennheiser HD800S'
These are HD800S, not HD800 as some people have asked. Earlier editions have HD800 on the headband. However, the HD800 are always silver cups. HD800S is black.- goremachine

Fiio E7 pre-amp?
The E9's headphone out doesn't allow you to use the bass boost of the E7 which is put in during the amping stage. Also I would probably not be using the E7 as a portable amp very often if at all -- I kind of want a one box solution. I don't need the extra amplification of the E9.- goremachine

Suggest a USB DAC for laptop
Fiio E7 is pretty well liked and seems like good value for the price. Also the uDAC from Nuforce. Probably a few others.- goremachine

Fiio E7 pre-amp?
Was thinking about getting a Fiio E7 as a desktop/portable solution. My headphones aren't difficult to drive so I'm sure they'll be fine from that regard. However, I also wanted to get a pair of powered monitors -- as far as I can see the E7 only has a mini jack for line out. I would be using...- goremachine

Amp for BeyerDynamic DT770 Pro headphones?
I'm using an audio-gd compass with them and they sound fine -- it's a very neutral sounding amp though. I wonder how they'd sound with something warmer, perhaps a tube amp. You can find the audio-gd compass used, or the audio-gd FUN for a decent price. They come with a not bad built in DAC as well.- goremachine

I need more bass!!!
Have the DT770s 80 ohms, old model. Very nice headphones and more comfortable than most closed phones. Build quality is a LITTLE cheap, but compared to Grados they're built like a tank :)- goremachine

Just looking for a customized opinion. Help please
Yes, with both of those phones. You could go for canalphones which will give you excellent isolation and bass but may be less comfortable over long periods -- probably a little more expensive also for equal quality.- goremachine

Bass Lovers Dream
How does the comfort between the XB700 and XB500 compare? I may be buying one of these sight unseen so some advice would be better than nothing at all. Unfortunately I won't get a chance to try them on.- goremachine

Denon D2000 no amp?
How does D2000 do with tube amps? I've heard it becomes muddy and problematic since tubes generally perform better with higher impedance headphones. However, I'm curious in trying something 'warmer' Also, I just like the look of tube amps with exposed tubes :)- goremachine

Best headphones at Best Buy under $200??? Beats?
I actually like the sound of the beats. But not arguing that you can get much better headphones for cheaper. n-thing the xb500 or xb700.- goremachine

Sony MDR xb1000? NEw? OMG
Looks like I've found my next headphone -- just need to sell my HD650s so that I can actually start ENJOYING my music instead of analyzing it. I now firmly consider myself a basshead.- goremachine

Extra $$ + Week of Obsessive Head-Fi Research = .... Grado SR-60i
I think Grado headphones sound great -- but they're just sooo uncomfortable. I always envy the people who are capable of wearing them because my ears itch and get hot after about 20 minutes. The styling is great also -- although I see a lot of hipster indie kids wearing them exactly for that...- goremachine

Why do ( some ) people call HD600/HD650 boring cans ?
I think the HD650s are a very nuanced headphone -- people call them warm but I think that might be very amp-dependent. Although I haven't listened a lot of Sennheisers, but the HD650s sound very flat to me. Maybe that's why people think they're boring. I think you need a 'colored' amp like maybe...- goremachine

D2000 vs. DT770/600
I'm hearing conflicting opinions -- I currently own HD650s and DT770 80ohms. I like the bass on the DT770s but it's not enough for me. I've definitely realized that I'm becoming a basshead -- however, I do also enjoy nuanced reproduction occasionally. However, I'm finding that I'm not using the...- goremachine
