Errr, I'm not sure which countries the previous two posters are talking about, but that is certainly not the case in the UK! For example, the U2 pod is about £60 more here after exchange rate conversion from the dollar price, and the 60GB Photo about £100 more....

For users of Etymotic ER4 or 6, with the silicone/rubber tri-flanges - how often do you swap them for new ones? I've been using mine, with occasional washing in soapy water, since May....

From what I can see the ER4 flanges (which I have) are the same as those on the 6i (the 6 is different of course).

I mostly use my 4Ps with an iPod out hillwalking, for up to 6 hours at a time. I find that after a while *when I'm very well warmed up!*, I can push the phones that much further in, and the seal obviously improves with sweat/hot wax etc, because the bass becomes much more strong and voluminous...

From my experience so far, you will get more bass drive if you use the ER4ps with a headphone amp - see elsewhere on the forum!

Personally I don't find the ER4P has either a bright sound or forward treble, but this may be a consequence of using with a 3G iPod headphone out

The g4 pod is less $ than the g3 pod, right? You don't expect Apple are making less profit on them do you? /unless of course the original poster has his tongue largely cheek-bound

so far as I can see, the ER4 phones are still $189 at Idealsound. I've bought from them too.

Obviously some people's iPods have more power output than others. I'd put this down to the US firmware having less restriction. No way is even 100% volume on my UK 3G enough to be uncomfortable, let alone damage my hearing, with ER4Ps, and mildly loud music. I'd probably back off a bit for...

I have this combo and right now I'm listening to Tori Amos at 2/3rds volume. I quite often listen at full though, depending on material. If I'm out hillwalking with the player I usually have it fully up. That said, the firmware update for UK iPods that came out at the same time as the g4 units...
