Review by 'mosshorn' on item 'FiiO X5 2nd gen Premium Hi-Res DAP'
Whew, this one took longer than expected to get around to but it is finally done! Thanks to Fiio for including me on the X5ii tour! (I will have pictures up later tonight) I'm going to skip all details of this DAP with exception of build quality, UI, and SQ. Even though most of this has...- mosshorn

Yeah I know, it's just the Herus+ worked no problem, same with the X5ii. I was hoping all would work, no such luck :(- mosshorn

It isn't working in Linux on 2.0 or 3.0. We're used to problem solving, I'll figure it out eventually :P- mosshorn

I completely agree with you. If you're building a DAP in this day and time, the community demands a relatively hiss-free, low Q player. Plain and simple.- mosshorn

I don't think it's a 3.0 issue. I'm plugging into 2.0 slots and not getting jack.- mosshorn

My Thinkpad X220 is running Antergos Linux (Arch) and it's not seeing the JR as a DAP either. I haven't tested this on 1.03 though. Perhaps it depends on the SSD? As for the impedance debate, it goes like this. In multi-BA IEMs, the output impedance will sculpt the sound of them...- mosshorn

You're right, 12w is fine for A LOT of speakers. Efficient speakers don't need more than even 5w to fill a room. It all depends on the model. For instance, Klipsch speakers are extremely efficient, and old KLH's are quite efficient as well.- mosshorn

Hot damn that is a good deal. Anyone who wants a do it all machine should check this one out. USB front so could (hypothetically) be used with Android OTG cable, optical can be used on TV's, 12w is clean power for smaller or more efficient speakers, and all in a clean box. If this had Bluetooth...- mosshorn

You often won't get bites on such specific questions, but what the hell The amp should be clean, Sony is usually pretty good @ that. As for the DAC, while it may be good, GO level good is a whole 'nother ballgame.- mosshorn

Great review. You really drive the nail home that with firmware updates, this will become a hell of a player. Also, has anyone thought of trying to DIY a RWAK JR? Could be interesting! Got my leather case in yesterday, finally. Takes away the sharp edges, and makes this player look oh so sexy.- mosshorn
