The Grado HF2--It's For Real
Sheesh. Grado targets a product specifically for a particular enthusiast community, and devotes a portion of the proceeds to that community, and you're disappointed? I could see being disappointed that the HF2s are outside of your price range -- they're certainly outside of mine at the...- Nugget

DT770 Pro - Should I send back my SR80s?
Before I lost them in a move, I had a pair of DT770/80s and Alessandro MS-1s, and they made a perfect complement to one another. The Beyers were excellent for movies and gaming, with solid isolation, deep bass, and an impressive soundstage. Positionals were nearly as good as using a 5.1...- Nugget

Beyerdynamic Seal
I don't have the seal problem, but I find the DT770 just sounds better when worn slightly forward on the head. I wear them with the rear of my ears almost touching the pads.- Nugget

Xiang sheng 708b pre amp-valve?
I can vouch for the Russian 6N3P-EB as a driver tube. The only output tubes I've used (other than the godawful stock tubes) are NOS Russian 6N23P-EBs. I was disappointed by the 708B when it first arrived as well. Lots of background noise, no bite at all. I figured I'd try some new tubes...- Nugget

$1000 For a Surround Speaker setup
I'm in almost exactly the same boat as the OP, so maybe we can help each other out. My sister is looking for a music/movies setup, with emphasis on music, wants to keep it relatively small because she still lives in Manhattan, is fine with a 2.1 setup but wouldn't oppose the ability to add...- Nugget

Stuck in house with 1950s wiring...
Will a UPS do any good without a ground? I know (or at least think I do...) that surge suppressors work by feeding excess current through to ground, so they just don't do any good without a functional ground.- Nugget

Stuck in house with 1950s wiring...
Like it says, I've just moved into a duplex with some ancient wiring. No ground except in the kitchen and bathroom (i.e. where the landlord was required by law to upgrade), and the lights dim every time my neighbor's laundry machine kicks on. Not great for audio. I'm not paying to run a...- Nugget

Calling Texas Head-Fiers!
Thanks for the recommendations. Steaks sound like a good bet. Now to figure out where the heck I am.... Nothing but creepily empty skyscrapers in the neighborhood around the Fairmont.- Nugget

Calling Texas Head-Fiers!
So my wife's firm has its annual Christmas party in Dallas this weekend, and the companion fare was cheap, so we figured we'd make a long weekend out of it. I just now realized that I have no idea what to do in Dallas. Any ideas? The only specific question I've got is about restaurants...- Nugget

Sub-$300 Upgradeitis Cure? Help!
Lack of an amp will kill most of those options. At least from what I've heard, the Denons are a pretty good bet unamped.- Nugget

sennheiser or beyerdynamic:which company do you feel makes better headphones?
Well, OK, but other than service and warranty most of the things you mentioned are pretty model-specific, so it would be tough to argue them back and forth. Is the build quality on the CX300 better than the DT250?Maybe if the OP gave us a family (e.g. circumaural) and a rough price range and we...- Nugget

Denon D2000 a good all-rounder?
Dammit, you're convincing me. How's the isolation on the D2000? And does anybody know how they'd do in games? How 'bout with a tube amp? Good lord, I can't wait to take the bar exam and be able to actually buy cans for a demo instead of "head-fi-demo-ing" them like this....- Nugget

Denon D2000 a good all-rounder?
I'm looking for a pair of semi-reasonably priced cans for classical, vocal, a bit of rock, and a bit of FPS gaming. They will be replacing my dearly departed DT770s and MS1s. From what I've read the D2000 is a very good overall can. Input? Man, I'm like a woman in Macy's here -- overwhelmed...- Nugget

Which will be better choice for gaming?
True. The most common responses here are DT770 and ATH-A900, but those are mid-fi options that can handle music as well. You really are better off looking on Hardforum.- Nugget

Making time for computer/console games
Well, why exactly don't you finish the games? Boredom or some other complicating factor? Help me rebuild!
I managed to destroy both of my decent cans, DT770/80s and MS-1s, while moving cross-country a few weeks back. I've been wandering in the headphile wastes ever since, making do with some godawful Sony earclips and some slightly better Koss BKH3s, both of which were originally intended only for...- Nugget
