How to hi-end-ify your SRH940
After reading extrabigmehdi's review on the Shure SRH940 [http://www.head-fi.org/products/shure-srh-940/reviews/5994], I got a great idea for a reversible pad modification, based on the idea of space between the outside of the ear and the mesh on the inside of the earcup. Basically it consists...- clarinetman

Colorado meet interest?
Hey guys-- I was thinking, would anybody in the Colorado area be interested in meeting sometime this summer? I think I read somewhere along the line that Steve (Asr) would no longer be able to set up or attend these meets (please correct me if I'm wrong) so I decided that I might be able to take...- clarinetman

Well, I'm screwed. But what did I do wrong?
Just now I opened up my M-Stage to do some chip rolling, as I just purchased new chips to do this with. I decided to try out one of the mono channel ones, the TL071, figuring that even though I didn't have the adapter, I could still listen from one channel. Wrong. I took my FAVORITE headphones...- clarinetman

Arrow 2.2G, mini-to-mini woes
After much waiting, I finally received my Headstage Arrow today as a much belated birthday gift from my dad (my birthday is in September). Suffice to say, it sounds quite excellent and it improves my SM3 is many ways I didn't conceive. Unfortunately I have one huge gripe. Mini cable I have...- clarinetman

Should I get rid of my J3 for an iPod?
This last weekend I had the pleasure of going to RMAF with a friend of mine. I went to Ray Samuels' table, and started listening to some of his portable amps. He asked me if I was using the HO or and LO, and I told him the HO--Then he told me not to waste my time buying a portable amp because...- clarinetman

"Permission denied!" error
When I tried to post a new thread in the FS forum, a dialogue box popped up, saying, "Permission denied!" and then nothing else. I'm wondering, is this is actually a bug, or have I done something wrong or against the rules? I was concerned for a moment that I had been banned... There seems...- clarinetman

Oh, look, it's another "Help me decide" thread, how exciting.
Well, as much as I dislike making new threads, I'm really really straining myself trying to determine which new DAC I should buy. I've owned an Aune MK2 for about a month now. It's decent I guess, but something tells me that it's not really up to par with something in the $3-400 tier, and...- clarinetman

Processor static
Well, my computer sucks, basically. When I plug my DAC into the USB port on my laptop, the tube amp my DAC is plugged into picks up the processor noise, which is very disruptive to anything I happen to be listening to. Any ideas on how to fix this?- clarinetman

Old (possibly original) Little Dot?
I found a guy on craigslist selling a Little Dot amp for $130. I called him asking what model it was, since it wasn't in the listing, and he said there were no markings besides "Little Dot" on the back plate, and that it was completely anodized gold. I found a page somewhere else on the internet...- clarinetman

Sony MDR-501?

XM5 dead and Practical Devices woes
Just a few minutes ago, I was using the DAC on my Practical Devices XM5 (as I normally do for computer audio), when suddenly it stopped working. First, it cut out a couple of times, and then it just stopped working altogether. I tried turning it on/off, listening through my DAP, and then...- clarinetman

Shure 840 vs. Grado 325: I must be insane
After doing recent and extensive A/Bing, and owning my Shure 840 for almost a month, the 840 has decidedly taken the throne as my new favorite headphone I own, even over my beloved Grado 325. I don't know how it happened, but there's really something magical about the Shures that the Grados...- clarinetman

So I'm going to China this summer...
I'm going to China this summer with a youth symphony I auditioned for, and I'm wondering if there are any headphone hi-fi shops to visit in the Hong Kong/Guangzou/Guilin/Beijing/Shanghai areas. I know there is Head-Direct, but to my knowledge there's no storefront and only a factory. Any other...- clarinetman

Headstage Arrow: The death of my XM5?
In the passing months, I've been hearing a lot of this new Arrow insanity going around, and never did any research on it--until tonight. In short, the thing looks like it could be a top-tier amp and even be far better than my much-beloved XM5 (or maybe just another FOTM ). So my question is...- clarinetman

Annoying internet connection
Hi, Earlier this week my computer (running Vista, oh boy) crashed and lost system32, and all of my old data was corrupted. In any case, this also meant that I had to reenter the key for my Ethernet connection that's now working (or so I think). The issue is that I have to reinstall all...- clarinetman

Solid State vs. Tubes: Which one(s) and why plus more
In the passing months I've found myself with the ever-familiar nervous upgrade itch for my nonexistent home system--I'm likely going to be getting the SA5000, AD2000, DT880, and/or SR-404 Limited, when I have the money. That said, all of the aforementioned will obviously need a decent desktop...- clarinetman

Closed cans, $400
So I've found myself with upgradtitis yet again, not to my surprise; this time it's for my portables. I currently have the ATH-A700. They do a very satisfying job, but as you can imagine, AT's Air series is hardly low-profile, and hence I look like an giant tool walking around with them in...- clarinetman

Best $400 IEM
Hello, In my search for a new pair of portable headphones, I've decided that using full-sized cans is simply impractical and just a plain pain in the ass. So with that, I've decided to give some IEMs a try. I should first start off with my music preferences. Mostly, I listen to alt and...- clarinetman

Corrupted hard drive
Hello, Today I came home from school to find that my external HD (320GB WD) had been randomly corrupted of all it's data. All the folders were empty. This is very upsetting. No more music library, pictures, videos, documents, programs, nothing. Any ideas as to how I might be able to restore...- clarinetman

Just got my Beyer DT880... Then I died and went to heaven
I guess I'll start off by saying that these are insanely comfortable (as Beyers always are) and they feel as though I've got a couple of huge, cushy, German pillows on either side of my head; dare I say I actually enjoy wearing them, which is a first. They're like a luxurious, $1500, pillowtop...- clarinetman

dBpoweramp removes tags when converting tracks
Hello, Simple question: I have found that dBpoweramp removes tags from tracks when I convert them. Is something that I could change that would make it refrain from doing so? It's going to be a huge pain if I have to re-tag/re-rip everything. Thank you!- clarinetman

Online stores with trial periods
So I was thinking today about how lovely it would be if there was an online store like HeadRoom that had some sort of try-before-you-buy program. You could have a few different headphones shipped to you for a small fee plus S&H, but only be charged for the ones that you decided to keep. I'm...- clarinetman

How do I solder this type of plug?
I just recently bought some Pailiccs plugs to repair the jacks couple of pairs of broken headphones. However, much to my dismay, I have no clue how to solder this particular kind of plug because it's not the three-terminal-type. Here is a pic of what I'm talking about: Your comments...- clarinetman
