Reply to review by 'bokononvolta' on item 'Schiit Gungnir'
Truth be told, I tired of the Gungnir in my stereo setup. It sounded nice, but kind of faceless. I got my Audio-GD Reference 1 DAC working again and its just more organic and has the breath of life to it... No knocks on the Gungnir, I still love it with my work headphone system, but this...- BokononVolta

Two years on... I have purchased the USB gen 2 card and ditched the Hiface (didn't make much difference to me, just a simpler setup). I have also upgraded from HE-4 to Hifiman HE-6 headphones. My Mjol/Gung stack was been powered on for the past 2 years 24/7 and no issues at all, listening to...- BokononVolta

Hifiman HE-4 Impressions Thread
I really dig the HE-4. Part of me wants to get an HE-6 since I love the 4's so much, but another part of me thinks that it can't be THAT much better. :) But who am I kidding. The HE-6 is on the path, but I definitely won't part with my 4's.- BokononVolta

Audio-gd Reference 1 DAC (56 K warning)
Have had one of these for a few years now. A great piece of equipment, I love the sound. I have had a question now for awhile just never remembered to post it. If I am using it for 3+ hours (for example) I will notice that it starts to get a bit static-y. I popped the top off and the...- BokononVolta

Schiit Mjolnir headphone amplifier
I moved up the Schiit line (Asgard 1, Bifrost, Valhalla, Asgard 2) and now have both the Mjolnir and Gungnir. I am pretty happy with this. It was a pain to convert my headphones to balanced, but now that its done, I'm super happy with the sound I'm getting from these. I will gladly upgrade...- BokononVolta

Review by 'BokononVolta' on item 'Schiit Gungnir'
I have the Bifrost before this and plugged this into my Valhalla before my Mjolnir arrived. Even though it uses the same D/A chip as the Bifrost, I found it to be a significant upgrade that I could even hear with the Valhalla and my Beyerdynamic DT990 (600 ohm). If I could only choose between...- BokononVolta

No experience with the Lyr, but I went from Asgard 1, to Valhalla, and now to Mjolnir. I found by increasing the power it got more resolving, better atmosphere, soundstage, but I didn't get a thickening of the mid-bass region. I find that I get that thickening with different headphones, at...- BokononVolta

Hifiman HE-4 Impressions Thread
Interesting - thanks for the replies guys. I probably won't upgrade for awhile, but I appreciate the advice, something to chew on. Wow, I figured the Mjolnir had enough power for the HE-6. Hmm, that would definitely put a damper on that upgrade... thanks again- BokononVolta

Hifiman HE-4 Impressions Thread
Thought I would report in, keep this thread going... I've lived with the HE-4 for a couple months now, as well as my Denon AH-D5000. Both are stock except for new cables (balanced to attach to my Schiit Mjolnir/Gungnir combo). I got the HE-4 and then added the Denon. I thought...- BokononVolta

Beyerdynamic DT990 (ver.2005) Impressions Thread
Yeah I was very hesitant to sell my old DT990s when I upgraded my amp. I am now running a Schiit Mjolnir (balanced only) and have Hifiman HE-4 and Denon AH-D5000, both balanced. They sound great... but for the long work day, nothing beats the DT990s. Last week I sent them off to BTG to...- BokononVolta

Hifiman HE-4 Impressions Thread
I have the HE-4 and really dig them. They have a nice thick midrange and a little thump in the low end. Should make nice rock cans. The only issue I have with them is that they are kind of heavy and you can't really do the whole head-bobbing thing without them moving or falling off due to...- BokononVolta

Sick of buying headphones
I agree, the Beyerdynamic DT770 is the one you want. Its $125 used on amazon right now, but the ear pads are the most comfortable I have experienced. I even moved those ear pads to other more expensive headphones, they are that good. The closed back is what will suit you too. They are built well...- BokononVolta

Schiit Gungnir DAC
I just posted about my Mjolnir upgrade over here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/603218/schiit-mjolnir-headphone-amplifier/2610#post_9309257 The day after my Mjolnir arrived, I received my Gungnir. I previously was using the Mjolnir (unbalanced) with the Bifrost. I immediately found the...- BokononVolta

Schiit Mjolnir headphone amplifier
Just upgraded myself to the Mjolnir this week, so thought I would chime in my praise as well. I am using the HifiMan HE-4. I was previously on the Schiit Valhalla (which probably was more suited for my previous DT990 600 ohms anyway) but the different between the two (and upgrade to the...- BokononVolta
