DIY CASES: Cheap suggestions that look good
Why limit yourself to metal? I made a DAC and a source switch out of floor slate left over, a piece of plywood (for the bottom) and aluminium for the top. Make the holes you need at the top, through the aluminum cover, and glue the slates around in the shape of a box... All these parts I...- Pendergast

USB Vs SPIDIF to DAC - differences?
I hope you all enjoy your setup! I am using mostly DIY stuff... I am using a powerbook as a source, with all the music froma separate drive, connected thru Firewire. The output goes through USB2 in a HagUSB (converting USB to S/PDIF), which is coupled to a DIY DAC. I also have a...- Pendergast

how many headphone amp do u have?
In order of acquisition: 1) Pa2v2 2) RA SR-71 3) 2 minified pints (1 desktop, 1 portable) 4) Bottlehead S.E.X. the first 2 I barely use anymore, and the portable pint I rarely use, as I do not travel these days. My prefered headphone amps are the S.E.X. and the pint. I use stock...- Pendergast

So which DIY amp kit should I build?
DrJon, I think that in matters of proficiency in building a kit, it comes down to time and personality. Taking time to do things one step after the other, and never rush into things... If I take the SEX kit, my first experience resulted in a power transformer blown up because I reversed...- Pendergast

So which DIY amp kit should I build?
I started with the portable ones: cmoy, MINT, PINT, then went bigger scale with the SEXperimenter from bottlehead. It was a good school; I knew how to use a soldering iron, but the PINT and the SEX forced me to use a voltmeter and check my circuit. I am very satisfied with both the PINT and...- Pendergast

Output differences between encoded and CD music
Hello, I have encoded all my music in the highest possible format in iTunes. Thaty being debatable, the actual reason of my posting this thread is that I found out that playing the CD straight from the cd-rom drive of my powerbook 12 (1GHz) and playing the files I imported from that CD to my...- Pendergast
