and then I built a new base out of Baltic Birch. I needed it to be more portable and protected as it moves all over the house.

Really great looking amplifier.

Seems like you know your way around handling plywood.

Hey cool!
I was beginning to think I was the only one here with a SEX amp.
What did you finish the top with? It looks so smooth.

I doubted my ability to get a nice smooth finish there so I chickened out and used the hammertone finish paint.

Todd,
How long did it take you to complete the amp (including mods ) if I may ask. I'm really interested in the kit........looks like just the thing to fill a rainy weekend's time

If you don't count finishing the base, it took about 8 hrs. Keep in mind this was the second time I built this kit so it might take a 1st timer a little longer.

Unfortunately it's pretty expensive.
Here's the post at the Bottlehead Forum from MagneQuest with the pricing.

If you need a SP frame of reference, I'd say at this time it's definitely better than the PPX3 I used to own, and probably better than the Extreme I upgraded to, but I would have to hear it again to be sure. Hadn't heard the MPX3, but if you make it to a Chicago meet we can compare.

I heard the PPX3 when I visited, not the Extreme right?

If you were here after Feb 07 it would have been the Extreme.

I had my chassis plate professionally powdercoated before I did the build. The plate is cream and the bell housing is silver metalic flake.

I also have Bottlehead 300B Paramounts that are done in the same color configuration. These drive my Klipsch La Scalas.

Cool amp, and beautiful work all of you amp builders!

Q's:

1.) what is the output impedance of the headphone jack?

2.) how does this fair with low-impedance cans, like Grado's & such?

TIA.

No you are not!

I have not used it with headphones yet, 2 years later...

Very satisfied with it, and on local meets, got very good feedback about the system.

I decided to not use the wood chasis, and had one made in stone (Jerusalem Gold), which has nice fossils in it. Expensive touch, but I love it.

1) There are 120 ohm resistors on the headphone jack so 120 ohms?
2) Just fine!
