[Pendergast]

I am tempted by the Audio Note kit 1.1 or the retro DAC, but I'd like to keep my options open.

Suggestions?

audio-note is tried and tested project. you can't go wrong with it.

I would certainly ask in AA or diyaudio since I would think more people there has build the DAC than here in head-fi.

This sounds like the wisest suggestion.

The retroDAC, as interesting as it seems, appears to be one rare project compared to the AudioNote.

It also contains a digital logic bug, It will still "work" but will not sound as good as it could, so the AN schematic is a better bet. Also, AD1865N's are getting tough to get in small quantities.

I am curious: what would be the logic bug?

The audioXpress article does not say anything about it.
