Stock HD 800 cable DIY question.
I did the very same thing about 2 weeks ago. I reterminated to 4 pin xlr, and it really isn't too tricky. This thread has a lot of useful info.- St3ve

Woo Audio Amp Owner Unite
Quick question folks: Does anyone happen to know what the rated maximum input voltages are for the WA22 (or the other Woos for that matter). I have been setting my DAC to output 2V rms, for both balanced and unbalanced, but am not sure whether this is optimal. I thought I would ask...- St3ve

I balanced my stock HD800 cable this evening (the temptation of having such a fine balanced amp overrode my apprehension), and I am loving what I hear. Early impressions are that the imaging has become more precise - much more in fact. I have heard very quiet little details on the stereo...- St3ve

Quote: Thanks, I am pretty sure that I am gonna love it! The rectifier in the picture is a sylvania 5931. I initially tried my Princess, and whilst it sounded great, it seemed to pick up some low-level hum (the previous owner had forewarned me). It seems to vary with the different...- St3ve

I'm not new to the Woo club, but I do have a new toy: Having decided that I prefer tubes, I swapped another head-fier my phonitor and some cash for it. Even single ended, it sounds really good. Unfortunately, I haven't plucked up the courage to try and re-terminate my HD800 cable...- St3ve

SPL Phonitor Impressions Thread
Quote: Thanks Peter, She's a Beaut. It's interesting what you say about the volume; the Auditor must output louder than the Phonitor, probably for the reasons you mentioned. Generally where I have mine set (between -24 and -19) tends to output around the 75-80db mark, which is the...- St3ve

The Sleepwalk/Listening Thread...
That's good going, people are capable of doing some complex tasks in their sleep - I remember watching a TV program where some poor woman was trying her best to lose weight, and would be dieting furiously in the day. Trouble was, she would get up in the night and raid the fridge in her sleep...- St3ve

Not sure whether he really stocks them, but I sourced my 6FD7 (along with my 6EW7) from Jack. I didn't ask for them specifically, I just asked for some 'spare driver tubes' (toobnoob that I was/am) when I bought a stand from him. If people are having a hard time finding them it might be worth...- St3ve

Quote: Thanks jc9394 - I certainly might give both of those things a shot. Quote: Thanks Xcalibur - I have a pair of Raytheon 6EW7s, and I find them kind of polite sounding - nice tonality, but a bit shy when it comes to impact (perhaps they are lower output, and it's a...- St3ve

I have a question for the WA6 tube gurus. Basically, I am looking for suggestions for a tube compliment that will make my WA6 sound it's most 'tubey' (for want of a better word). I guess my solid-state amp (spl phonitor) has got the whole clean and neutral thing covered, so I would like to...- St3ve

Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread
Quote: I reckon this is critical with these 'phones, for some odd reason. My HD800 seems very volume dependant when it comes to tonality. When I first got them (and got carried away with head-banging volume) , I loved the presentation but found that sometimes they could get a bit...- St3ve

Evenin' all. I've learned an important lesson over the last couple of months: 'A man and his Woo are not easily parted' To summarise, I recently (impulse) bought an SPL Phonitor, a fantastic amp, and have felt a bit pressured financially. As a result, I (foolishly) have tried...- St3ve

Headphone storage
I use a headphone stand (Woo Audio HPS-T) day-to-day, but my 'phones go into the box when I go away. When I had more than one set of cans I would end up using them on rotation, so one pair would live in it's box when not in use. Weirdly, I have an irrational fear of dust getting into the drivers...- St3ve

Quote: I actually tend to keep it set in more-or-less the same position (CF:4, SA: 75), but I do find myself tweaking the centre level setting (can't quite make my mind up on either -1.2 or -0.9). I guess I have just got really used to that presentation. I am absolutely loving having a...- St3ve

Apple loves music - that's why we love Apple
I am interested in the AirPlayer announcement (update to Airtunes). I hope this means that you can broadcast more than just iTunes to an airport express/extreme/apple tv. Hi everyone, AppleheadMay's Phonitor has found a new home: Not a bad looking bit of kit. I absolutely love it. It really does make my HD800's shine, and the crossfeed system is fantastic. I have only had it just under a week or so, but I have been totally...- St3ve

beginner advice for HD800 - do i need an amp? does the cable really matter?
Quote: Sorry, I was quite unclear. To clarify, I was merely using the apogee duet (a mac-only combo dac/amp interface) as an example of a ~$500 device which produces more than satisfactory results with my HD800. The HD800 can sound great out of smaller rigs, and will scale nicely with any...- St3ve

beginner advice for HD800 - do i need an amp? does the cable really matter?
You might be surprised at what you can manage with a modest amp+dac. Personally, I sometimes use my apogee duet (acting as an amp+dac) which can be had for around $500 and it provides very listenable results with my HD800. Sure, It is not up to the standard of my full rig - but enjoyable enough...- St3ve
