Maybe you are not achieving a perfect seal with it? In theory it should increase bass and roll off treble slightly if anything- ross1974

SONY IER-Z1R
Well I have no doubt there are better DAP/amps out there but once you hit a sound you really like and the law of diminishing returns kicks in at that point I look for a combo which is also convenient for me and the Sony Walkman is very portable and i can do everything with it out of one single...- ross1974

You are right! I am now listening to it through my Sony TA-A1ES amp’s headphone output in mid gain and the sound is incredible, fuller, richer.- ross1974

SONY IER-Z1R
I have just received my IER-Z1R last week after a long wait, S/N 7395. Before purchasing I read all available reviews and more all less all useful feedback in this forum, as these were not available to demo (or even imported) in my country. I decided to pull the trigger mostly based on my faith...- ross1974

Yes that's obvious nobody claimed otherwise. I am just stating I was impressed at how good it sounded for a NC 350€ phone and how similar the SS is. Other than that no comparison.- ross1974

I thought it's bass quantity was similar to the z1r maybe 10% less. Could the source make a difference do you think? LDAC?- ross1974

I think the mdr 1000 has the same type of sound as the z1r , lush and musical, I personally didn't think it's bass shy. Of course soundstage, detail etc are not up to the z1r but it's clear the are both made from the same company to my ears- ross1974

During Easter holiday I left the z1rs at home and got my mdr1000x noise cancelling with the Sony Walkman 1A with me as a more portable combo. The mdrs are fantastic NC headphones, and after a few days my brain adjusted to their sound to the point of me thinking "wow these sound almost as good as...- ross1974

I agree with you. So the big picture here is that at this level these are very accomplished reference headphones. It depends on personal preference, but for me the two features that made me chose the Sony were 1- the fact it's not picky with recordings and it's still fun with an 128 Kbps MP3...- ross1974

The 1A drives the Z1R just fine through balanced. However I found that it only reaches 70-75% of its potential compared to being driven from a proper amp in terms of dynamics, bass control, openness etc- ross1974

For those that have the TA amp, how loud do you usually listen to the Z1R? I tend to listen at -30db at low gain. I don't know where that is in % to the amps max.- ross1974

You re obviously right LaCuffia but at the same time is one finds a headphone with a rare combination of sound attributes like the Sony it's also logical to want to stick with it and upgrade the sound even if it's a 5% increment- ross1974

Different opinions on this thread on these cables. My own opinion is that the Sony KK is an improvement, making the headphone even more musical through better timbre and more open with vocals. Others disagree, I haven't heard the Axios, I have bought and returned the Silver Dragon which I didn't...- ross1974
