I listened to it (briefly) at CanJam and had a strong preference for the Z1R. Of course, my opinion and $5 will buy you a latte at Starbucks...

I own both, and here are my Dunkin' Donuts coffee opinions:

The Eikon is an almost reference sound with a touch of boost in the bass which makes it really fun to listen to. Vocals in particular shine on this headphone. Guitars are really really good. The treble extends forever but is not sibilant. Really really fun to listen to. I listen to this straight out of the DAVE, as the tubes make the Eikon a bit too boomy in the bass for me.

The Z1R have a sound signature that is all wrong to me by frequency response specs (slight V or W shape), but somehow sounds just right. Almost all genres (minus some classical) sound like you're sitting in an amphitheater. The build on the headphone is immaculate as well--you can tell they really care about the perceived quality. I pair this with the Woo WA8--perfect synergy.

I love them both, but they are different.  The Z1R is much easier to wear for long periods of time because it is 200 grams lighter.  Both are great closed cans, but I still prefer my open headphones when I have a quiet room to listen to then in.

I'll give you an extra dollar for your opinion as you seem like a nice person.

Cool, the barista gets a tip!

During Easter holiday I left the z1rs at home and got my mdr1000x noise cancelling with the Sony Walkman 1A with me as a more portable combo.
The mdrs are fantastic NC headphones, and after a few days my brain adjusted to their sound to the point of me thinking "wow these sound almost as good as the z1rs. Then I get home and put the z1rs on. Wow all over again. So strange what the brain does. Having said that The Mdr 100x are the best NC phones I have heard especially partnered with a Sony device with LDAC BT

I also have both headphones. The 1000X I agree sounds fantastic, but for me it absolutely needed a modest bass boost via the EQ in my Onkyo HF Player.

I did the same at CanJam and also preferred the Z1R enough to pay twice the price. The Z1R is also a lot more comfortable and lighter. That is not to say I did not like the Elkon. It was one of my preferred headphones at the show. Great for the money if you don't mind the weight.

Starbucks has to be the most overpriced and horrible tasting coffee ever.  It's actually really hard to get a good cup of coffee anywhere though.  I feel bad for Canadians too because Tim Horton's is not any better.

While many like "Timmys", an equal amt would not choose it as their 1st choice...to each their own.

Their blonde roasts are decent, but beyond that I do find them a little dark. I am a pretty big coffee connoisseur such that I have even spent over $30 a pound and grind from the bean for every cup. Currently I use the, made in the good ole US of A, Aeropress (Trump would like that right) coffee maker. Really good coffee.

So if I love the Z1R then the 1000x is a no brainier portable solution for noisy environments such as planes? Anything else I should consider?

We have most of them but frankly the Sony MDR1000x is light years better than the other options.

Thankfully in Canada like in the US we have plenty of choice. In my city for instance there are many chains of varying degrees of quality/selection and many independent shops with fabulous coffee. I would never call Tim Horton's coffee nor will I drink it, even when desperate, I would just go without. Tim Hortons does have good food selections mind you.
