Thanks

it sound pretty good, very neutral, plenty of power
also very quiet no hum or hiss
started with a circuit board and a bag of parts with no instructions
so i'm happy that it works at all, went together pretty easy,
the case was more work than the electronics

having never heard an actual grado amp i don't know how it compares
but the circuit is very similar if not identical
also the op-amp is socketed so chip rolling is easy

Forgot to ask how long do the batteries last? Did you try to see if there are alternatives to using 2 9V batteries, only asking since 9v batteries are not the cheapest.

good stuff @Arty McGhee, your description sounds like what I would describe the Grado R1-a amp

@DavidA don't know about @Arty McGhee's amp, but the two 9V batteries on the grado amp last over 60 - 70 hours!

i've only got 3-4 hours into it so we'll see how the battery life works out

from what i've read the idea of the 9-volts is quiet power no interference
or buzz or hum from a cheap ac power supply, i could replace it with some
rechargables, we'll see how it goes, it was mostly an experiment to see if
i could do it, and learn about amps to build something more ambitious at some point

Hi all,

Just signed up on the site and wanted to share my new Grado GH2 mods! I'm unable to post any pics on the site but as soon as I can I will, so for now I'll note my additions to the my GH2's. I've added Moon Audio Black Dragon disconnect cables, a Turbulent Labs headband with my own custom GRADO design which was laser engraved by Grady Custom Leather. Custom gimbals and custom rod blocks were also added making these phones look as good as they sound...

@Jeffrey Mitchell, love the engraving on the headband. Curious to what connectors you used on the cups? they look like either MCX or 2.5mm

The cup connectors I believe are MMCX. They are the same type of connectors used on the Sennheiser HD800. The engraving design took some time to create. I wanted to compliment the GH2's look without over killing the headband design . I made 3 different designs before choosing the one you see.
