X3 Cover Art (Cropped or Not) POLL!
I'd like to see as much of the image as possible, but I don't want to see black borders if the image doesn't have the ideal aspect ratio. The later is less desirable than a cropped image. -
Official X3 1st gen firmware thread--3.34beta: removed 5800 song limit, play through folders--Happy Chinese New Year!
Thanks for the reply. I found out that some of my FLAC files were missing the Artist field, even though the corresponding CUE files had that information. I fixed those and followed your instructions, and "Unknown Artist" disappeared. I still don't think what I did should cause a hard crash... -
Official X3 1st gen firmware thread--3.34beta: removed 5800 song limit, play through folders--Happy Chinese New Year!
I'd like to report a bug. My X3 freezes when I hit "Unknown Artist" if there are no songs under that category (i.e., all songs have proper Artist tags). The unit completely freezes and had to be force shutdown (i.e., no Goodbye screen before power off). -
FiiO X3 beta firmware 3.00EX available for download. Added beta ExFAT support
Did you mean that we'd always need a FAT32-formatted card to flash new firmware? -

Mahler Symphonies Favorite Recordings
First of all, I apologize if someone else has done a review on this recording. I've been absent from this thread/forum for so long that it is simply impractical to read through all the newer posts - although I'm sure I'm missing a lot of constructive and invaluable discussions as a result. But... -

Tinnitus sufferers .... may be helpful
Hi iancraig10, I have a very mild case of tinnitus and I've always assumed I got it from my grand father. I also have pretty severe sinusitis, so after reading your post I started wonder if I have the same condition, too. My question is this: what kind of doctor did you go to? Just a...- saxphile

Perreaux Silhouette SXH2
I think you guys are probably listening at a volume too high for your ears. I've had my SXH-2 for over a month now, and I rarely turn the volume past 11 o'clock, and that's with classical music! If I was listening to Jazz or Latin music it's usually at 9 o'clock. If hearing loss is already an...- saxphile

music for the "first time"
I don't know if you guys have noticed, but there's a really big problem here - none of the songs you proposed is longer than 5 minutes. That's quite a bit shorter than how long it takes for mentioned activity (well, usually, anyway). I'm sure the effects wear off after the fifth repeat or... -
Mahler Symphonies Favorite Recordings
All this discussion about new Mahler cycles has been really tempting... But I've just spent a crap load of money (well.. by a graduate student's standard, anyway) on upgrading my system... Must... resisti... buying more CDs... Anyhow, after getting my new setup (see sig), I've noticed an... -
any good mahler headphones?
What's good for classical music is potentially good for Mahler, but what's not definitely won't be good for Mahler, which means Grados will probably not serve most people's taste for classical music here. RA-1 is designed by Grado to drive Grado headphones. So it doesn't really work that well... -

Gmail going semi-public?
Perhaps that has to do with how careful they are with giving out their email addresses. Some people don't think twice before putting down their email addresses, even when the website looks dodgy. Also, mail-forwarders (jokes, health info, blah blah) are more prone to have their addresses...- saxphile

Gmail going semi-public?
David Pogue had an article on the Times a while ago about this. And that's where I got the idea that Google might choose to stick to this business model. Check out NY Times- saxphile

Gmail going semi-public?
My Gmail page has a new box for invitations, and this time there's 50 of them! Perhaps Google really does plan to rely solely on existing user inviting others as rumored? And perhaps my grammar really does suck? Anyway, drop me a PM if you want an account.- saxphile

Perreaux Silhouette SXH2
I was gonna start my own thread for this, but seeing how this might answer your question (in a way), I'll post my thoughts here. I recently got a Rega Ear and Perreaux SXH-2 from my dealers. They both came brand new and I had to let them burn-in for around 20 hours each. Source used was a...- saxphile

Mahler Symphonies Favorite Recordings
It seems like the thread has gone into another buying frenzy mode. I must have got over 6 new Mahler CDs over the past few weeks. I'm glad to report that I've finally found my favorite version of 6th, Barbirolli with NPO, the EMI double forte edition. It makes such a strong emotional impact... -
iBook/Powerbook users
uzziah, You might need to post the DAC question in a new thread. This is a pretty old thread, but people don't respond to questions with thread-hijacking potential very actively. BTW, when Michael mentioned the PC card slot he had the Indigo in mind. Unless you can somehow rewire the...- saxphile

Virtual 5.1? Has anyone seen this?
Yeah I thought so too. I'm just wondering if anyone knows more about it. On the other hand, they must have some tricks up their sleves, otherwise who'd buy a USB stick that does no more than the built-in sound card?- saxphile

Virtual 5.1? Has anyone seen this?
HarmonyExpress Looks like it's targeting at general consumers, so it might not stir too much interest here. Still, does anyone know what kind of technology is behind this "virtual 5.1"?- saxphile

Px-200 question
Hi skip, How long do you have before you have to return them? PX200 needs a fair bit of burn in to sound good. Play some bass-heavy music at volume slightly higher than listening level for at least 10-15 hours. You might find them very different afterwards. Also, you need to wear it...- saxphile
