Hi-Fi in New Jersey
I've had a great time at Audio Nexus is Summit. The service I"ve received from them is better than any other audio shop I've ever been in. Both Ken and Gerry are helpful and friendly. You can check their website www.audionexus.com for directions. They are having a sale through Dec. 20. Eric- Galileo's Dad

New York City area hi-fi stores?
It isn't actually in NYC, but I've been very happy with Audio Nexus in Summit NJ. You can check out their website at www.audionexus.com. The website also has lectures by some high end manufacturers talking about their products and design philosophies (Ray Kimber, Audio Physic, Meadowlark Audio...- Galileo's Dad

shopping in manhattan
Stereo Exchange on Broadway at Houston had both the grado and creek headphone amplifiers the last time I was there. Harvery also carries both, but I don't think they have them on hand to demo. I'm not sure how pleasant an experience you'll have at either place, if that matters to you.- Galileo's Dad

questions for scd-ce775 owners
Hello, While at Best Buy yesterday I noticed a scd-ce775 on the clearance rack. To make a long story short, I bought it ($149 with a four year service contract, a new universal remote (since they didn't have the original), and the 4 sacds that were in the player). They didn't have the manual...- Galileo's Dad

What music do you play for your children?
My son just turned 3 and he absolutely loves the beach boys. He loves to sing along and tell me what instruments are being played. He prefers Beach Boy records up through Pet Sounds. Lately he has only wanted "fast songs with drums". Other songs come and go, but the beach boys are always his...- Galileo's Dad

The Busy Signals
The Busy Signals have a nice little song, "headphone world", that might be of interest--can you resist a song with the refrain "you look so cute with your cans on"? Until Monday you can hear it by going to www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/blueroom and listening to last week's show. Of course, you'd...- Galileo's Dad

anyone want some Stereophile magazines?
I'm moving and trying to clear out my apartment. Anyone in Brooklyn (Park Slope) who wants a bunch of Stereophile issues (April 2002-August 2002 and april, october, and december 2001 (april and october are the recommended components issues)) should email me before next week.- Galileo's Dad

a question for netMD users
Hi, I've looked around for the following information, but I've found conflicting reports. Here goes: I know you can't upload to the computer, but can you title tracks from your computer if they are on the minidisc but not the computer (I record a lot of LPs to minidisc and it would be nice...- Galileo's Dad

AKG K-501 and Amp combo
Much like legoman I use a Little with the 501s and am quite happy. I almost never get past 9 o'clock on the volume, and I think 10 o'clcok is as far as I've ever had it. I second legoman's suggestion to try the Little (if you're happy with it you'll have saved quite a few bucks). I've been...- Galileo's Dad

stanton turntables?
Does anybody use and/or know anything about Stanton turntables? They are mainly DJ turntables, I guess, but I'm intrigued by the str8-80 since it is cheap and has a digital output. Thanks.- Galileo's Dad

OT: Books to read?
It would be hard to go wrong with the following authors. I've mentioned some titles where I thought it would help. fiction: Iain Pears, "An Instance of the Fingerpost" any of Umberto Eco's novels John Crowley, "Little, Big" any Gene Wolfe, esp. the four books comprising the Book of the...- Galileo's Dad

Halloween Playlist
I don't disagree with KR...'s observation that "Diamanda Galas is a bit much for most people ", but this was for a Halloween playlist. I happen to like those albums very much, but they aren't everyday music. Also, I might just have fond memories attached to them. Advice for all you kids out...- Galileo's Dad

Looking For Haunting Music
1. Ligeti's "Requiem" 2. Diamanda Galas's "The Divine Pit" and "Saint of the Pit" 3. early Nurse with Wound, like, "Chance Meeting on a dissecting table of a sewing machine and an umbrella" (actually, I'm not sure it counts as haunting, but it is nicely strange) 4. Sleep Chamber, "Circle...- Galileo's Dad

Halloween Playlist
I'm surprised nobody mentioned Diamanda Galas's "The Divine Pit" and "Saint of the Pit". While they are part of a three part work dealing with AIDS, they are also very creepy. I think there is also a Current 93 record (maybe it was "Current 93 presents . . .") that was, according to the liner...- Galileo's Dad

Nirvana Unplugged?
I'm unsure which question you are asking: (1) Are there other nirvanna records that sound like their unplugged album or (2) other artists who sound like nirvanna unplugged? Maybe you are interested in both, so: (1) Some of the songs on the unplugged album are on their first two albums in...- Galileo's Dad

Inexpensive ($50-$150) Interconnects?

Inexpensive ($50-$150) Interconnects?
Hello, I'd like any opinions on what you consider to be the best interconnects in the $50-$150 price range. I plan on auditioning several brands, but would like any help in narrowing the field. They will be connecting a CAL Gamma DAC (on the way out, so don't take it too seriously) to a...- Galileo's Dad

Which "Pet Sounds"
I'm no Beach Boys expert, but here's what I know. I've heard both the 1990 CD that contained only a mono version of the album and the more recent 1999 CD that contains both the original mono version and a more recent stereo version. Brian Wilson was, I believe, deaf in one ear so wasn't...- Galileo's Dad

Headroom Little?
I've tried searching the forums, but since the words, "Headroom" and "little" are used in almost every post, I'm having trouble finding the information I'd like. I can't, for example, find a real review of the Little. I'd appreciate at least a mini-review (on both the physical characteristics...- Galileo's Dad

Help with my jazz listening, please
Thanks for your input. I'll certainly take a look at the Senn HD-580s, Beyer 770 Pros, and the AKGs (both 401/501). Of these choices I've only ever heard the 580s and I wasn't so impressed (but the listening conditions and music were less than ideal), so I have high hopes for the others...- Galileo's Dad

Help with my jazz listening, please
Hello, I'm sure I could piece together the answer to my request by compiling the answers you have all provided in other posts, but it would be much easier to just ask you all, so here goes: I've been listening to lots and lots of jazz, from the 20s through the 60s, and find that my Grados...- Galileo's Dad
