I have never used the Tx series. However, I have used T400s and 500s. I am currently using the S series on my IEMs, especially my RE0. These are not as soft, nor bounce back as quickly. They have a similar smoothing effect on the RE0s, but I don't think it's as pronounced. I like them a lot.

Had a good experience when I returned my HF5s for a broken shaft. The second time it broke I gave up on etymotic.

I've had my RE0s for well over a year (nov 09) and often use them for sleeping. However, I usually pull them out during the night and slip them into the drawer of my night table, where I also keep my DAP. BTW, I like Meelectronics M6 for sleeping as well.

I use comply T500 off of my triple-fis. I have to use a small bit of double sticky tape to keep them on, but they work well. Really tame some of the harshness

I always found that ety foams provide the best sq out of the HF5 (vs other foam), but are not very comfortable. Never did try shure black, though. My HF5s broke for the second time earlier this year and I gave up on them. (I have a project in mind for them, if I every have free time.)

What source do you use?  Rockbox firmware allows you to play mono, so you could use any iem.
