The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

FYI, for those thinking of converting to bluetooth - I used the FiiO LC-BT2 MMCX and it works perfectly. They're back to daily use again.

KENNERTON VALI - Impressions, Discussion Thread

Agreed. If you had a wide soundstage it is going to lose a lot of the qualities that make this headphone great. But this is one reason why we all have multiple headphones. :)

KENNERTON VALI - Impressions, Discussion Thread

Same - one of those rare headphones where you find yourself relistening to your entire music collection. The Laguz were also better than one might think (fantastic for $100 IEMs). But the Vali just seriously blew me away. Even my wife, who is lukewarm on high-end audio was impressed. I...

Yeah, just checked and the box says that it is made in China.

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

Yeah, I liked my FX850s so much I bought a second pair for the office.

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

That's what I did.  I would make sure they're a reputable seller (significant amount of feedback, basically all positive).  Realistically, I know warranty service is a toss up.  They usually state they will handle the 1 year warranty, but will they?  Who knows.

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

Just some advice: don't buy from sellers that have only a few sales on their record (only 5 ratings, 1 of which stated they sold them a subpar lens after which they refused to work with them).  Amazon will shut them down but they don't really care.  Paying a few more $s to avoid drama is worth...

    Sennheiser IE80's Impressions Thread

But the "veil" isn't limited to the IE80.  Read any thread about the HD650 and you'll hear exactly the same discussion, despite the fact that the HD650 has far less mid bass.  I would say that the "veil" has more to do with some of the choices that Sennheiser has made in order to increase the...

    Sennheiser IE80's Impressions Thread

There's definitely demand for that as well.  I'm a huge basshead but I still want high end headphones - in fact, I bought 2 sets.  Based on what I see on head-fi, the IE80s sold very well.

Strange.  I can't say I've had that experience at all.  Maybe try with different clothes and devices?  If it keeps happening I'd send it back.  FYI - mine were also off of amazon.com (seller: Ace Japan)

I actually still have my MMDTs, though not with me right now so I'll have to do this by memory.  IE80s are generally better and therefore the MMDTs have gone to my wife.  IE80s have better extension for both bass and treble, but MMDTs have more treble by default.  Both have plenty of bass...

    Sennheiser IE80's Impressions Thread

There are definitely some use cases for the IE80s over the FX850s.  I agree that generally speaking the FX850s are better from an audiophile perspective, but note the following: - The FX850s are semi-open.  Outside you will hear street noise, public transport noise, etc.  Any advantage they...

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

I would definitely not get customs if you're unsure of whether you will like IEMs.  I think high end universal IEMs are fine because at least you can resell them if you decide they're not for you.  I would say the FX850s are a great choice because 1) they are all-arounders, meaning that they're...

I made the opposite switch, from BA to dynamics because BA never sounded natural to me.

    Sennheiser IE80's Impressions Thread

Yeah, I thought they were perfect too until I tried the JVC FX850s...    But seriously, they're great headphones and one of the best thing about them is that they're very durable.  I have two sets of IE80s and while I have replaced 2 cables, both are over a year old and both work perfectly.  One...

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

A few suggestions: 1. Try wearing them over the ears instead of just straight. 2. Try comply foamies.  I didn't like any of the tips but the comply foamies are much better for long term use.  The included foamies hurt my ears after fairly short periods to time.

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

Totally agree with this.  While they don't have a bass tuning port like the IE80s, they can definitely put out enough bass or treble or whatever you want with slight EQing.

Bottom Line on Sony Ex1000 vs Jvc Fx700 (and Fx850)

I had the FX500s which had more of a V shape than the FX850s.  The FX700s, from what I have read, are similar.  So you will get a flatter sound, but with very strong bass.   The EX1000s were considered on the bass-shy side.  The FX850s definitely are not that, which is why I would prefer them...

The JVC FX850..Woodie perfection?. (A review)

Just got these today - I'm in heaven.   Had the JVC fx500s and loved them but the cable broke just after a year, meaning that they were binned.  After that I vowed never to buy another set without a replaceable cable.  So when the IE800s came out I passed.  This policy has served me well - my...

AudioQuest Dragonfly Review : Affordable, Outstanding, Tiny DAC / Amp

Quote:   I have an S3 and I tried it.  It doesn't have enough juice to power it.  My Fiio E7 works fine over the otg cable, so I know it isn't the cable.

AudioQuest Dragonfly Review : Affordable, Outstanding, Tiny DAC / Amp

Personally, size is worth a huge premium to me. If it had a built in battery so I could use it with my S3 it would be perfect.

    Monster Miles Davis Tribute thread

I would argue with a few of your points. 1. I have the Triple.fi and definitely don't think sound quality is better. I think the MDTs are the superior headphones. Better extension in both bass and treble, better soundstage, better timbre. The Triple.Fis are admittedly a bit more detailed an...

AudioQuest Dragonfly Review : Affordable, Outstanding, Tiny DAC / Amp

This is head-fi and affordable is definitely a relative term. $250 is definitely a reasonable candidate for that designation. You're talking about a place where people regularly spend $500+ for headphones and amps.
