CX300... not really a step up from the EX71?
The EX71s sounded very muddy overall to me and were in the end fairly unlistenable. The CX300s sound much brighter and crisper, especially with the classical music I mostly listen to. Not to mention louder - I now don't need to go above AVLS levels on with Sony MDs etc. To be honest they (the...- KJ_Palmer

Possible to change name?
Good luck with changing the name, it's probably best if you don't like it anymore. Presumably a more 'neutral' one might be the best thing. Mine is boring, but it is at least recognisably me...- KJ_Palmer

Remote controls: do they degrade SQ, do you use them?
Don't worry about it - of course there will be a small theoretical amount of degradation due to extra resistances etc. Any extra link in the audio chain will do so, but really it will be negligible and if you can't tell the difference already you wouldn't be asking this...- KJ_Palmer

Favorite French Fries
McDoh's fries are usually limp and soggy, and really suitable only in an emergency. Burger King's are the best of the lot, not that there's much choice here. Crisp and fluffy, they even make a reasonable 'chip butty'...- KJ_Palmer

your prefference: phones or speakers?
Always speakers for me, unless the situation requires headphones, eg. for portable use, not to disturb neighbours etc. Headphones can start feeling very uncomfortable after half an hour or so, though they can be indispensible for close-up or some critictal listening purposes... -

On "Portable Rigs"...
Bit of a waste of time/effort/money overall. Xin Supermini just died and I've no plans to replace it. Was only used it about 10 times in 2 years with NH900. Latter works fine with Grados and other headphones, so no need to bother with the hassle any more.- KJ_Palmer

Buying DAPs on the Tottenham Court Road
Possibly Hi-Fi Surplus Supplies, just off the corner of Great Russell Street if I recall rightly. Their prices are generally lower than other shops on TCR, and I've managed to knock them down a few times, eg. got my 30GB HD5 for £180 last year, and picked up some nice Hi-MD bargains there too.- KJ_Palmer

What to use for burning my Grados?
I'd leave them burning in with FM static (at 'normal' listening volume') overnight for 3 or 4 nights, and use them as usual thereafter.- KJ_Palmer
