The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
Yes, better sound quality. Lower end audio-gd, like nfb12 or 11, should be avoided with hd800.- jsgraha

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
I used to have audio-gd nfb12 (supposed to be slightly warmer version to nfb11), and there are other products better it in similar price range for hd800. Schiit Vali better it for amp only (combine with modi multibit maybe, for dac/amp). Or for single dac/amp, geek out v2a or v2+ better it as well- jsgraha

DNA Stratus 2A3 amplifier - first impressions
Maybe also try Maxx134 Version 2.5 MODs at the other site, which IMO further improve he1k further. It offer slightly better treble, less laid back, better impact and similar staging. When I compared to he1k v2 at the store, I did prefer modded he1k v1, since v2 staging was still slightly more...- jsgraha

Life after Yggdrasil?
Maybe because he auditioned a cold demo unit? I can't listened to my almost a year yggy from cold. Sound hard and metallic on its timbre. Usually need about 3-4 days after if my house had a power outage (which happened 4 weeks ago) But maybe it's preferance as well. Metrum Pavane is a great dac.- jsgraha

Yes, I had the SD mod installed already for about two months. It was quite easy to install and take them off. I had tried the original mod which based on shure tips, but didn't like it unfortunately. And yes, you may try mine. Maybe we could follow this on pm- jsgraha

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
I bought my hd800 about 3-4 years ago, after listening them with a ZD. A ZD is truly an amazing amp with hd800! I think you should consider to investigate a SuperDupont mod by sorrodje to further improve its performance. It was truly an awesome mod! And if you happen to be in SouthEast...- jsgraha

DNA Stratus 2A3 amplifier - first impressions
Interestingly, I currently enjoy the tubes combo which previously I liked with he1000, U52- TJ Full Music/SE. Shuguang Natural C-T still quite good, but it's a bit too rich with SD Mod, while Sophia Princess is a bit too wet. It will be interesting to try KR 2a3. Hopefully, I can find a pair...- jsgraha

DNA Stratus 2A3 amplifier - first impressions
It's been almost 2 months since I run my hd800 with the new mod SuperDupont, invented by sorrodje. I like it a lot. Previously, I had my hd800 modded using rug liners only. Now, SD mod and dust cover only. This mod brought a new height to hd800-Stratus pairing! Highly recommended! It made me...- jsgraha

DNA Stratus 2A3 amplifier - first impressions
On additional note, the hum from input tube tend to follow the volume pot. IME, if the input tube start to go wrong, the noise will increase and decrease when volume pot turned up and down. While if 2a3 tube which go bad, they do tend to follow the swap between left and right, and seem to...- jsgraha

DNA Stratus 2A3 amplifier - first impressions
In my setup, the warmest input tube was 6bq7 RCA. And my favorite was cheap Gold 6N1P-VI. I bought 4pcs for $18 shipped to AUS last year. They seem more balance than 6n1p-ev (being bright) and 6bq7. I use it for both he1k and hd800.- jsgraha

Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread
I used to have Sonicweld Diverter, using iUSB and LPS from my custom music server with LPS. When I had my previous dac, audio-gd ref7, I prefer those setup to everything from JKspdif mk3, Ciunas and AP with battery and/or with LPS. During break-in of yggy, still prefer Sonicweld Diverter setup...- jsgraha

Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone
A few weeks ago, I managed to go back to my local shop auditioning new headphone (bringing my modded hd800). It's quite interesting when I managed to listen to their he1k, I also spotted this slightly rough treble compare to hd800. While at home, I didn't notice this issue with my he1k (to my...- jsgraha

Yeah, same here with globe TJ Full Music 2a3/SE and U52 rectifier combo. I hardly listened to hd800 currently. Listened to fresh lcd4 at store using wa5, but still prefer he1k. Maybe it need more burn-in- jsgraha

It did sound great with the Abyss  . But I think, with hd800 and hifiman, I think for my preference in sound signature, I picked stratus. To my ears, using int30a, both sens and hifiman seem losing their nimbleness. But not with abyss though, it sound great with that phone- jsgraha

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
Hmmm, I didn't notice this imaging issue though, even when I have a friend coming with abyss. If other he1k owner heard this problem with imaging, then I'm afraid that it confirmed production variation. Though, I think I experienced this issue during burn-in (about less than 150 hrs). I'm not...- jsgraha

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
For me, compare to HD800, HE1000 seem have that soft in its attack. But only compare to HD800, not to LCD (either X or 3). Soundstage, particularly its depth, actually better than my modded HD800. I felt layering (in term of depth of each instrument location) also better on HE1000. Bass goes...- jsgraha

$700 AUD for an upgrade.
Understandable. Those two are good and comfortable, good bass (but not sub bass). For a step up in sub bass, maybe try to wait for a used lcd2 or he500 (but forget about comfort). Maybe monitor this forum as well. http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php?/forum/7-private-hi-fi-classifieds/...- jsgraha

The (new) HD800 Impressions Thread
Like a few posters here, I did half mod of anax 2.0 (only with rug liner, without dust cover), and it does improve clarity. I did bring my modded one to compare at stock demo at my local store. Stock one sound a bit warmer actually, a bit muddy as well. While modded one, beside extra clarity, it...- jsgraha
