    Headamp Blue Hawaii Special Edition

I placed an order earlier this week. As it has not yet been announced that Batch #4 has been sold out yet I can only assume it is in that batch where I lie. When I get contacted by Justin for other required order details I can post the progress here. But I know what is involved with this and I...

Digital front end is Gentoo linux computer server running a LVM2 Raid 6 array. All cds ripped to flac. There is not currently a CD transport in the system as it was never used so removed to recover rack space. The server is 10 feet away from the audio rack in a closet. RME HD9632 soundcard...

Any Dynavector DRT XV-1S owners know what the hell this thing is?

It is a stylus guard. It is a friction fit against the sides of the cartridge body that keeps it on. This thing as a prophylactic is as equally fraught with peril to use as not.

I look for balanced IC (XLR)

I have had a Apache and it is indeed a amp with a warm, forward sound. If you are willing and able to DIY interconnects, then that is the most effective way to proceed. Canare L-4E6S with Neutrik XLRs will get you started for little money, construction is simple and will sound fine.

    Vinyl popping and static

IME vinyl pops and ticks are mostly the noise of dirty records. So the first thing is to make sure the reocord is as clean as you can get it with whatever way you use to clean it. IMHO use of some kind of record vac is crucial because otherwise washing a LP just moves the dirt from one place to...

Lou Reed talks about the crappy SQ of mp3's

Head-fi is a site normally visited by people that are interested and care about music & sound quality. Am I correct so far? So why the hissy fit about a musician that makes comments about standing up for better quality recordings from the record companies? I'd surmise this would have been the...

I cant tell a difference between Digital or Vinyl

A/B'ing between vinyl and a CDP on an album isn't the best way to compare, IMO. Gotta llisten to the sources for longer time frames to find out if the SQ connects with you and if there are listener fatigue issues. If after doing this your opinion is the same as it was when you started...

    Finding Vinyl...

I had gotten back into playing vinyl LPs within the last year and asked the same question before deciding to reaquire a turntable rig. Vinyl is not difficult to find and there is lots of it. Online places like Acoustic Sounds, Music Direct, Elusive Disc and Circuit City (online only not brick...

Congrats, looks to be a enviable setup. Post some pics after you get it running. I am certainly intrigued by the Dynavector arm and would like to hear your view of it after you have everything run in.

    The official record-cleaning fetish thread!

As a recent convert (or could that be phrased "born again") to vinyl, I have heard high end analog setups playing records maintained by zealous aficionados. These records sound from very quiet to silently flawless, depending on the pressing. I was once sceptical but impeccable LP playback is...

    XLR cable quality questions

DIY on the XLR cabling is the way to go. All the info needed to start doing this is found in the DIY section here at Headfi. Running balanced cabling is also the way to go, if and where you can. Compared to single-ended, balanced runs are less noisy and are more tolerant of longer runs. IMO...

Online, there are the usual suspects for vinyl-related items: http://www.needledoctor.com/Online-S...ect-Turntables http://store.acousticsounds.com/brow...Title_ID=15627 You'd likely pay the same online as from a local dealer. Therefore perhaps best to go local and get the expertise and...

AV710 - are simultaneous outputs possible?

I use the AV710 in linux with the ALSA drivers and there's no problem running both the Wolfson dac chip outputs and the spdif optical simultaneously. Most of the time the drivers that support the evil empire are as robust, if not more so, than what is found in open source, so you should be OK in...

I will make sure not to miss this - so count me in. Right now, the only thing I have that's reasonably portable is a ECD-1 DAC so I can bring that. Anybody want to find a place in the sound chain for this? My first meet, look forward to meeting some of you wags.

DACs: Buy mid or save and shoot for the top?

My main headphone is the HD600 which is similar to your HD650 as far as the requirements to adequately drive the cans.If you try to drive the cans from the single-ended output of either the Lavry or the Benchmark, the sound will have the bass and the dynamics removed. There is not enough drive...

    Does Apache drive Edition7/Edition9/GS1000 well?

I have a Apache and have driven HD600s both single-ended and balanced by swapping the cable on the Sennheisers. I do not need to go past 12 o'clock on volume with the amp in medium-gain mode - it is very loud. As HD600s are high impedence cans considered difficult to drive well, the Apache...
