A couple of questions regarding Lame

Flac is still the safer choice as you would only need to rip the CDs once . From there you can encode to the codec flavor of the month, or reencode things if you mess up. If you encode to a lossy format and change your mind in the future on the codec or settings, then the CDs would have to be...

    Methanol powered portables

There's a problem when you have to re-fill the tank. Depending on the safety standards, consumers may be forced to take the tanks to special re-fill stations. That would be very inconvenient. That plan was to allow consumers to buy re-fill packs but that may not happen because of the volatility...

    Hi-LP vs. MP3 128

Personally I find lp2 better than hi-lp. For portable use, I encode the music at Hi-SP. Although I much prefer the original SP via opitcal recording, it is too time consuming to encode my CDs.

The current modern king of PCDP isn't saying much about the market, but it would probably be the Sony D-NE20.

    Humerous iPod nano accessory idea

How about an attachable battery pack that uses 4AA batteries, like the one for the iPod. The battery life would be awsome, but the thing would be HUGE compared to the nano.

    Initial iPod nano sales disappointing

The iPod Nano is entering a saturated flash market and isn't offering anything controversial. As a result it's also getting less media attention. When the iPod mini was introduced, people exclaimed who would pay so much for 4 GB when they can pay another $50 and get a regular iPod. When the...
