Bit of a noobish question, i'm sure! I'm working on a three channel beta22 at the moment, using all the standard component values from the site (gain 8). If I want to use it as a preamp too, is it as simple as having a switch to choose between the headphone output and output phono sockets?

Looking at the wall wart, it seems it's just a transformer and puts out AC... this is getting confusing

According to the bottom of the turntable, it's a Debut II, and it does have a wallwart power supply.

The stylus of my ortofon 05E has broken, so I figure it's time for an upgrade. My budget would stretch to a Grado gold, but would this cartridge be too much for the debut? Any other cartridges that would go better with the turntable?

Thanks for the reply I looked at the data sheet for the link you posted, and it doesn't seem to be quite the same thing. Looks like that one is more of a surge protector than a filter. To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what the filters do!

I have a colossal head and they don't fit If you get these, you really need a new headband I think. They do change the sound a lot, but i'm not enough oh an audipphile to describe the change.

I have C-Pads with my HF-1s, and the main thing i noticed is that with the stock headband, it's almost impossible to get them to actually fit my head! The R and L blocks of plastic on the headband make contact with the pads, stopping you from making the band any smaller. It might not be an issue...

If you just want to cover the bare (insulated) braided wire, then any kind of cable braid such as tech-flex should work fine. If you want to make it look more like a traditional cable, try using plastic hose, like you might use for a fishtank! You can cover that with the techflex too.

The same thing happened to mine. Grado said to send it back to the factory, even though I bought them from another headfier so don't have a warranty. The only problem is that grado labs is several thousand miles away

Are you sure that stuff is stranded? I thought wires.co.uk only sold stuff for making jewellery.

Does anyone know where I can buy stranded silver wire (not cable) in the UK? I want to make my own silver cables from scratch, but I've only been able to find solid cored wire.

My A level electronics teacher told me balanced cables were used to that interferance would be the same on positive and negative, cancelling each other out. Was he wrong or does this just not apply to audio?

For the Ear+ amp I'm building, I'm using a really huge black gate cap in the power supply, purely because I love the way it looks Does using exotic components like this in a power supply actually make any difference, or do they only have that effect when in the signal path?

But the wood ones are so pretty... Argh!
