I'm a bit amused that everyone says Beats are overpriced, but that chart lists headphones that are only $100-$150 (though I've seen the mediocre Mixrs for $120 two years ago, they didn't sell at $250 in the market) less at the most compared to Beats' ****ty past headphones; $100 isn't a huge premium to buy a brand. It's tough to admit it but the Solo3 are worth what I paid at $219. Only $60 more than the AirPods with the same technology and much better sound.

One of my considerations is I don't want to be seen as a Beats sheep wearing them but I don't care as much now that Apple owns them.

My issue ( OPINION )  is that Beats on a whole are at best Mid Fi earphones. They are made and marketed towards people who dont know any better. Mass marketed to the misinformed masses as it were. But IF there is someone out there whom enjoys their sound then really who cares. Im not being forced to buy them or listen to them so in the end its really about what you as an individual like.

Yes they are. But you can't find high-fidelity headphones in retail stores. (Even the Momentum are considered "upper mid-fi.")

And THAT is a shame. Because not everyone (Especially in CT) has access to Hi End Audio Stores. So your left with the internet and other peoples opinions to base a purchase of hundreds to thousands of dollars upon. SUCKS

You're comparing a next-gen wireless headphone to presumably all wired headphones.

They do have a new fairly-priced wired pair called the EP available as low as $79 on sale.

I can't believe I'm defending Beats but here we are in the Apple age of Beats headphones.

I know they are not strictly comparable. I was just illustrating the point that you can some get pretty decent (or even in some cases absolutely superb) headphones for less regardless of technology

I thing it's a funny old world where paying over £200 for a portable headphone is the norm

I'm a cheapskate scrounger but consider the 4 headphones I use the most currently; 2 pairs of open headphones Beyer & Yamaha and 2 closed Sony & Musical Fidelity, you may well think they're are cheap and nasty cr*p but they were ALL purchased for considerably less than one pair of shiny Solos

Just how much is that amazing revolutionary world changing technology worth any way? How much does it cost as a proportion of that £211 price of the Beats. Is it 10, 20, 50 or £210, how much is invested in good old fashioned sound?

I could waffle on and on and on and on.but it's all just a fart in hurricane really. What do I know. No one's bovvered

Since when is beats a cult? They are just hyped..!

Sorry just a bit late (!)in replying to this one but most users are brainwashed by the advertising. Image and peer pressure to conform and be hip. Hence my comparison to a cult I suppose. A fashion and marketing cult. Again I say most users a few do like the sound with is fine I suppose. Whatever floats your boat

That's part of the reason I'm so ambivalent on the Solo3, since I know there are better headphones out there. Though I've learned that I may not necessarily enjoy them more, and I don't want to go through a handful of pairs to find one. Just as you do I've learned to keep a collection of headphones rather than one all-arounder, and if I'm being blunt the Solo3 fit the wireless part of my collection better than any other wireless headphone I've come across.

Frankly I didn't consider the Solo3 until I demoed it in an Apple Store for over a half hour, then couldn't get the sound signature out of my head over the next few weeks. They only got better with time.
