Which albums sound best with your Grado?

Not that you shouldn't do that, they're very nice. But is there a way you could try the PS500s with G cushions first? It might save you $1100.

I did this last summer with the hf2 and compared them with my old ps1000 at the time.

You get a similar, wider soundstage, but you don't get the same bass nor the same grainless sound as you do with the ps1000. The hf2 driver still has that slight graininess that you get in midrange dynamic cans. The gs1000 and ps1000 don't have that grain (or much less of it to the point that I could never hear it)

It was a while ago when I did this so I don't remember more than those two aspects of the sound.

Still, a ps500 or hf2 with the big bowls doesn't sound bad, since those drivers are tuned for more bass, so the loss of bass from the bowls isn't as dramatic as with an rs1. But it's still not the same experience as the ps and gs cans.

My sister went to see Chris Botti live here a few months back and was raving about him, so I ordered a couple of albums, which arrived abotu a week after my Grado RS1i's.

So I spent last night listening to this:

And hat trumpet sounds pretty incredible on these cans, I must say.  Was amazing.

Took your suggestion and replaced my PS500 with the G cushions. But the mind wants what the mind wants. The only solution is get the PS1000 and be done with wondering.

Just remove and reinstall the tube. If it doesn't work get a new tube.

Grado album of the day - Rosemary Clooney and the Count Basie Orchestra - At Long Last

Rosemary being the aunt of Hollywood's very own George Clooney - this jazzy female vocal recording is almost worthy of the same quality and praise
as my Frank Sinatra Live at the Sands with Count Basie number - almost - that Frank recording is the best thing I have for the PS1000 but this is
 very good.

Frank Sinatra - Live at the Sands, should I find the original or remastered? Or was the only CD version ever released the remastered version?
