For some reason of all my albums, including a few lossless, X Japan "Vanishing Vision" just sounds spectacular on my SR80i's. Also that's without being properly amped, though they are modded.

Depends on the Grado.
 
The HP-2 is good with everything.  I use the HF-1 and HF-2 with rock, as I did with the RS-1 when I had it.

Acoustic guitar with or without vocals sounds excellent as well.
 
Grado's also seem to enhance the sense of "air" on live recordiings.
