Why not both? Think big.

Don't be let down yet. There is also the Hackintosh approach. Here are the best 2012 laptops for such activity: http://www.macbreaker.com/2012/09/best-hackintosh-laptops-2012-mountain-lion.html
Not exactly a MacBook but close, and can be done for well under half the cost.
A 256GB SSD drive
Why do you need such a large SSD? I have a 120GB Samsung 830 and I've never even come close to filling it because I have a 3TB Seagate external drive. Get a smaller one (but not a really small one, they have weaker performance), and use the money saved to get a big ol' mechanical drive.
I already have a 60GB Sata 3 SSD for my Os drive, the 240GB one is for my games drives as I switching over from the 500GB Mechanical drive that I have my games on. I do not need a 1TB Hard drive, I was barely using 2x 500GB in a Raid-0 setup, which I undid and took a hard drive out. a 240GB SSD is enough for the amount of games i have installed with room for more if I decide to buy any more or install more.
The one of the 500GB's will be used for External Storage with a hard drive cage and the other 500GB will go into another computer.
