Looking at a new drip coffee maker as my old Krupps is getting long in the tooth. Any opinions out there on the MoccaMaster brand?
I have the Moccamaster in red with the glass caraffe. The brand was recommended to me by my favorite roaster who said he uses one at home. I’ve had it for over 5 years and it has performed flawlessly.

And for the glass carafe haters out there  , I shut off the hot plate to avoid coffee burn. I like the evolution of coffee flavor as it cools.

I'm the guy who while in the Navy and needing a cup of coffee, would see the glass carafe on the hot burner with an inch of black burned sludge in the bottom, toss in some fresh water, swish it around, and fill my cup. Mmm. Toasty.

Do you add salt to your coffee or is that apocryphal?

A pinch of salt added to the grounds when brewing takes out some of the bitterness. So does adding a graham cracker to the grounds. It works to help make cheap coffee drinkable.

I did not make myself clear

Do Navy people add salt to their coffee as a matter of course due to Navy coffee always having salt in it, or is that story untrue?

If they make coffee out of sea water, they don’t need to add salt. I did my mandatory military service in the navy, too.

Ours is silver w/ a glass carafe. Best coffee maker we have owned.

That was my question. Is the coffee made with incompletely desalinated water?.... And do Navy people grow to like it?

Yes, desalinated absolutely. Anything else is a myth. A myth probably started by sailors.
