Never really understood why people use equalisers, surely this means you are trying to compensate for a sound signature your equipment is generating that you do not like?
Or altering the way the music was supposed to sound?
This isn't a dig just a relaxed query
That's exactly the case with ISINE10 theirs high are killing me, and as for cypher cable eq it only plugs in ios and i have an android

Don't know if this was discussed before as i have just recently discovered this thread. I had an an LG G5 with the B&0 Hi-Fi DAC AFD-1200 (ES9028 SABRE chip) and as i changed phones i started using the DAC as stand alone USB on my android TV Box! Was able to stream Tidal MQA tracks through the UAPP. Tidal app can stream only up to HIFI quality. The DAC can be found in used condition in the UK market for as little as 10 pounds. So transforming the Android TV box to an excellent DAP!

Maybe try different Earphones?
If you need to EQ them, they do not suit your taste

I have recently started using a Topping DX7S DAC amp with an Android TV box, connected to my main stereo system.
It works but not without some idiosyncrasies which I plan on posting here later this week.
There is a discussion I created a while back related specifically to using UAPP with an Android TV box.

Equalizer is very useful, especially on lower quality recordings. Uapp has very good implementation for eq. Many of 80s, 90s dance, pop, rock recordings are poor. Later, 2000s brought loudness which ruined even more the experience, not to mention the quality of the music itself degraded. So, it is unfortunate but most of the recordings are average and eq helps.

That makes sense, If it sounds that bad I suppose there is no choice.
Personally if it sounds poor, I listen to something else

Yes, this makes sense too. I took some hires wav files from lessloss.com, they do not need eq. But i want to listen to some of my favorites, e.g. Scorpions - Crazy World album. It is their best and most succesful, yet the recording is so bad...sounds like 128kbs mp3s, seems as they didn't care about it. And i think i can go on with hundreds of examples, great music, average or below recording quality, almost the entire 90s dance music, Snap, Technotronic, C&C Music Factory, Robert Miles...

Whether you want to use EQ or go a purist route is a personal decision. However, it’s false to think that EQ only alters the sound from what the music engineers or the headphone designers intended. Your audio files and phones were mastered and tuned on reference systems costing exponentially more than what you’re using. Your gear, without EQ, is far from that neutral and introduces new frequency issues. No decent mastering engineer released a track with highs that pierce your ears or mud in the low mids, etc.

You can use EQ however you want, but a major use is to bring your system closer to reference rather than further away. Here, UAPP’s bundled EQ is not that precise, which is why Davy made the great decision to work with ToneBoosters. You can unlock that EQ for a few bucks and it’s pretty powerful with good quality. At the same time you can mess things up more easily with it, but if SQ is important to you, it’s worth learning how to use it.

TLDR: EQIF ( Equalizer Is Friend).

Yes a more than capable device especially in place of the supplied headphone dongle with most phones (audio playback only)

Got mine about a year ago

Sadly, the B&O add-on was never released in the US. That's why I ended up getting the V30+. Love it!

I am looking to see if I can get either a V30, V30+ or V40 ThinQ but being as I am for a good price.

Re the above mentions of the G5, V30/V40 etc., I should post an update on my experiments with the LG V30 ThinQ, a new LG G7 One, and the Tidal, Qobuz, and UAPP apps. @masterpfa I imported the G7 One from Canada via eBay.

The tl;dr summary: on the G7 One UAPP delivered perfect Hi-Res from Qobuz and blue dot MQA from Tidal via USB to my external DAC/amp. This works better than the V30. However, I have been unable to play MQA through the internal quad DAC, even though it is otherwise the same as the V30.

In previous posts I was having trouble driving my Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital (DAC and headphone amp) with the V30 ThinQ. The G7 One has no such problem. The Pre Box is not really a mobile DAC, and requires external power at least for the initial connection with either phone, so many of you may not care but the V30 problem may have something to do with specs I found saying the V30 has "Power Delivery 2.0" USB, while the G7 One has "USB On-The-Go".

The official Tidal and Qobuz apps sent USB output through the Android OS, where it got resampled to 48 kHz in all cases (MQA, Hi-Res, whatever, all 48 kHz as expected). But UAPP delivered perfect Hi-Res from Qobuz and blue dot MQA from Tidal. There were a few MQA dropouts, but we know this is still common and not UAPP's fault, and when that happened I just went back to Qobuz to enjoy more Hi-Res! On the other hand, Darko and other reviewers are apparently wrong about internal MQA support: unlike other LG models with the same internal quad DAC, this one does not decode MQA. On the official LG web page for this phone, MQA is not mentioned. I tested MQA with downloaded 2L sample files and Tidal streams. No luck.

The V30/40 phones are definitely higher-end overall, but the G7 One with its pure Android One system is a better fit for me, and it contains the same internal Quad DAC that works for all purposes...except MQA decoding. The G7 One also includes a DTS:X 3D Surround option you can activate instead of the Hi-Fi Quad DAC control panel, plus an FM Radio app (if you're into that sort of thing) which is tightly tied into the system, locking out a third-party radio app I was using on the V30. But that's all internal. My main point here is, UAPP worked great!

[Edited with results of internal MQA playback tests.]

I am getting "error starting playback" when using the USB c earphones that came with my phone, and when using a hidizs sonata, I have a LG g5 dac that does work.

My phone is a Huawei p20 (not pro). Does anyone have any ideas?

I'm afraid it's a typical thing that happens with many USB DACs on the latest Huawei devices. If anyone has a work-around, I'd like to know as well.

After a bit of reading around I found a few people saying the p20 worked with USB dacs but the majority saying it didn't.

A shame as otherwise the phone is very nice
