The HFI has different earcups than the PRO series. I will check for you tomorrow if the drivers from PRO900 will fit in the 2400.
You might be able to get the drivers from your local distributor/importer. Dont go bothering the local retailer who will probably look at you funny if you ask for the drivers.

Erin any updates on this. thanks

cough cough have a SA5000 for sale ... Though if you have elefant ears you will probably get into the same issues with the SA5000 as you got with the 780 or 750.

Ah well, I keep reading that the SS is limited on the sa5k...I sure love the fantastic 3D SS of the cd3k drivers, I think only the k1k could beat it....too bad I need isolation.

having more thoughts about my last post, I was told that the sa5k was wide when needed but could also be narrow if needed. the cd3k will NEVER be narrow, except on mono =D

what blew me away on the HFI-780 was the uber-percussion of the sound(a tad too much maybe?) but more specifically its holographic SS, their SS+ technology is really eye popping. I remember a movie w/ a scene in a car, and the stereo was turned on...I couldn't locate it, the sound was very "dry" and yet completely out of my head and as "holographic" as can be. One thing's for sure, the Ed.9 must really be something!

My experience with the SA5000 was a fairly consistently narrow sound stage, lots and lots of treble energy, deep bass energy, but not much midbass presence,

Am very much enjoying the Pro 2500.  Want to a/b them with the DT880/600.  : )

I've got a question about the HFI-780:

I keep reading they have a strong bass but I can't agree at all. The bass is punchy but it's very far in the background. Highs are by far the loudest.
My sources so far are a lo-fi A/V receiver (Technics), an iPhone 3GS and an onboard sound card (Asus P5N-E).
I will get the Zero Dac (OPA627) in two weeks but I'm not sure how far the sound will change.

Are my sources too weak to handle the HFI-780's bass or do I just need more than others? I listened to the DT770 Pro yesterday and it had a WAY stronger bass than what I'm used to. (Just as a reference.)

I had a zero dac. (not with the opa627 though) this is to my ears, a VERY bright sounding DAC. Beware if you are trying to avoid brightness. Very detailed though. In the end was not my cup of tea.

On a seperate matter, I did a quick AB comparison between the old PRO2500 and the HFI2400 today, and couldnt tell the difference between the two.

Just to follow up, In a quick test it was difficult to say which was better, but listening a bit longer, the PRO2500 was better in all areas than the HFI2400

Can anybody compare the Zino to the HFI-2400 as apparently both use the same driver? I doubt the Zino will win, though!

BTW, I'm getting a free velour headband stripe for my HFI-780. Thanks, Ultrasone!

The magnets on these Ultrasone drivers are strong! Be careful when opening up a pair.

Just a quick question. Which Ultrasone would give me the Pro 2500 sound but in a closed version. Would it be the 750 Pro?

I like the 2500 but they leak sound something awful.

The 750 Pro are the closed counterpart to the 2500 Pro, but the two do sound different.  You'll lose midrange fullness, but gain bass impact and definition, with the 750.  In addition, obviously, you'll lose that open sound field of the 2500.

The 750, despite the fact that they are closed, will not solve all your leakage problems, either, since they, too, leak somewhat (although certainly not on the scale of the 2500).

If you can afford to purchase the 750 and retain the 2500, that would probably be best.  Then you can make the comparison, determination and judgment for yourself.  (Then maybe you'll end up keeping both!)

Yep. Got my Zero DAC a few days ago and it gets a lot more bass out of the HFI-780 than I ever imagined! I guess it was dfkt who said that they have a chest thumping bass. I now can finally fully agree!

IME, the 780s seem to have more bass if the sound stage isn't as well defined. Straight out of my laptop or an ipod, the bass of the 780s sounds overbearing and the drums seem like they are coming from the same area as the vocalist or guitarists. With a decent amp, the drummer takes a back seat to the vocalist/guitarist, the drums sound like they are coming form further away and the spectrum sounds more balanced. For bass heads, maybe unamped is the best way to go with the 780s?
