god I miss the HFI-780 SS...would a Pro2500 be more comfy/have better mids? does it leak a lot? It's only S-Logic, not S-Logic+ though. I also hated the Pro750.

damn you Ultrasone for making the 780 a bait to make us buy an Edition phone

Why go for the 2500 when there is a 2900 :)

I think the 2900 replaces the 2500, no?

No idea. But the 2900 does have S-logic plus and is based on the Pro 900 which after KeeS mod certainly is an upgrade to the 750 :)

S-Logic vs. S-Logic plus means nothing.  I modded my Pro-2500s a couple years ago and they're much better for it.  I think I posted something about the mod on Head-Fi

It´s supposed to be more compatible with more ear shapes. I do got better soundstaging out of my 900 then 750 anyway.

As for the soundstage, my 780 (S-Logic Plus) easily beats the Zino (S-Logic) but when amping both (even though the 780 improves even further), the Zino just beats anything I've heard. If something is really recorded in the center (like Susan Wong's Close to You or some songs of The Score by Fugees) the experience is just incredible! It's like it's just there, in the room, not in your head. Placement is impossible, but the sound just isn't in your ear. Really awkward but simply amazing. However, instrument placement is worse than with the 780.

IME, the 780s seem to have more bass if the sound stage isn't as well defined. Straight out of my laptop or an ipod, the bass of the 780s sounds overbearing and the drums seem like they are coming from the same area as the vocalist or guitarists. With a decent amp, the drummer takes a back seat to the vocalist/guitarist, the drums sound like they are coming form further away and the spectrum sounds more balanced. For bass heads, maybe unamped is the best way to go with the 780s?

I can't really agree unless I use the bass boost equalizer on my iPhone or equalize the bass with foobar2000. Unamped, 780's bass is very subtle, imo. Still very good as it's punchy, but it doesn't have any impact. With an amp, though, that's when they reach near subwoofer quality.

Hey - just got my 780s today. Straight out of the box and I'm liking what I hear - they are definitely doing a better job with projecting a "soundstage" in front of me than my Grados, which always sounded very "left ear, right ear".

So, how's the synergy between the 780s and your D10?

So after having the 580 for awhile I really like what it brings to the table as a whole.  Many seem to like the 780 but from reading some impressions and looking at the FR graph I have to say the v-shaped 780 looks scary to me.  More boosted treble and recessed mids compared to the 580 is something I don't think my ears would like.  Am I wrong to assume this?  Is the 780 (40mm) bass of the same quality as the 580 (50mm)?    We know graphs don't mean everything but many impressions seem to support the graph.

The gold and the titanium drivers are more sharp on the mids/high. The titanium driver is even more hard these frequencies, So, you're not wrong.

well, luckily my brain has forgotten about the 780 SS and from what I read the Ed.9/8 still have mushy mids. Ultrasone seem to know a lot about SS but very little about highly detailed creamy mids. Compromises again I'd presume.

Nothing mushy about the ED 8 mids.

Why don´t you get a K1000. I can´t see how ear speakers like that can fail in the soundstage department :)
