My understanding is that the Qables SilverCab PROline cable will not require such a sacrifice. Make of that what you will...

If I were to cannibalize my other, unused Proline cable, then I guess it'd be essentially free (if a bit of a shame to mame a perfectly good cable in the name of audiophillia).

look at what a "little maiming" gets you:

No. The pouch was merely used as a provocative, photographic prop. It's actually SLWISER's former headphone bag, used to transport, among other things, the ATH-A900LTD. : ) The RAL/Proline cable comes in a plastic bag with descriptive, white paper and warranty.

Congrats on the 2200s, Allen!

For pure enjoyment, they are indeed quite hard to beat, with a warm, engaging sonic character that does not discriminate between source or material quality. Not the absolute best for critical listening, mind you, but who cares, they somehow manage to make everything sound smooth and lovely.

Here's another, of the RAL/Proline 2500:

. . . a few weeks before I swapped the 2500--for the second time. I did keep the cable, which now resides quite contentedly with the Proline 750. RAL + Proline 750 = a NICE couple. : )

Steven,
When I initially had Brad Vojtech at RAL build the Proline cable, I simultaneously owned the 750, 2500 and ULE 2200. So I wanted one, detachable cable to "float" between the three Ultrasones for easy a/b-, b/c- and a/c-ing.

Now that I've (decidedly) decided upon the Proline 750, I may ask Brad to hardwire the 750 (using a split wire, with a dedicated lead to each driver--like the RAL re-cable on my K701) or to replace the jumper between the 750's R/L speakers.

From a "purist" perspective, I think a "total re-cable" makes good sense: for me, 100% RAL Cryo-Silver Reference w/no problematic, screw-in connector along the path.

That's a good description of what I'm hoping for with these phones. I knew the 2500s weren't for me since the consensus sounds like they are revealing of source and material deficiencies and their highs are bright. I'll be perfectly happy just to listen to the music and don't need to hear every last detail. I'm easy to please.

That makes great sense. Easy to audition diffeent cables, then hardwire when decided.

In which case you two should get along famously, Allen. The 2200s are quite possibly my favorite phones for reggae, since there are so few "audiophile" recordings in that genre. So smooth, deep bass, and their brownish/orangy color scheme is of course a perfect mood-setter.

Just be sure to give the 2200s a good 150-200 hours burn-in and you will be very well rewarded for your trouble!
