Hey Watercooler Friends, I have a general question that I think this place is the only forum I’d even dare ask this question, lol. My sense is for the most part, everyone’s good natured in temperament

Cheers man-- I have nothing to contribute to the particular discussion but I have to say I feel a tinge of pride every time someone compliments our little community in this way. Cheers and welcome!

Very interesting, I hadn't heard of this until now, since I don't have much interest in vinyl (other than nostalgia). But I think this guy sums it up very neatly (no need to watch the whole thing, just watch from 11:10 - 12:30):

I think it's really cool listening to classic vinyl, that's how I first heard music as a kid after all, but if I want to hear the very best presentation of a track, it's always from a digital source. I may enjoy the vinyl presentation - heck even Sony gives a nod to vinyl 'distortion' as part of its DSEE DSP settings, which I love playing with - but to claim it's the best version of something seems a bit flat-earthish imo.

I love Vinyls and playing with it and the whole nostalgia. But it’s practicality is hard to sustain in these days (at least for me). I’m currently the most digital as possible. I don’t even have local files, just streaming apps…offline mode, yes… but not ripped songs.

It’s hard to think of any music today that is completely analog, even for musicians and producers it’s not practical.

Well. I have ‘bad’ dsd vinyl rips with noise. Gave a whole lot of meaning to analog. Growing kind of frustrating whenever those albums comes up on my playlist

Yeah I've never understood the point of vinyl rips. The whole point of vinyl, for me, is the playback hardware. That's where the 'analogue' sound comes from, clicks and treble drop-off and all. It's also about the 'romanticism' of pulling the record from the sleeve, placing it on the platter, gently placing the pickup needle, and sitting back on a recliner in front of giant floorstanders. It's more about the experience and mood-setting as it is the sound.

No matter how good the recording hardware, a vinyl rip will never come close to a pristine digital copy on any metric, and the pops and clicks and analogue pickup noise make listening to the result on the type of ultra resolving gear we use utterly frustrating.

In other news we got some rain for the first time in a while last night which meant I could spend the morning out on my bike without being murdered by the sun.

The Okanagan Valley is famous for 3 things-- wine, golf and lake Okanagan-- and I managed to capture all 3 in one pic on this beautiful day:

I’m also there

Yeah I remember going to some length to track down a vinyl rip of one of my favourite albums on DSD 256...what a monumental disappointment. There was so much noise and crackling I could hardly stand it.

Someone got to try the Trifecta with their DMP Z1 at the Hong Kong audio show.

Definitely a sexy looking IEM and all things considered probably the one I'm most interested in hearing right now.

Are they worth the price tag?
I can only answer that for myself and cannot tell you yet as I’ve only had one listening session via SE through my laptop. I will be able to listen tonight after work via balanced through Questyle M15 and in a few weeks through Cayin N6ii R01 and by then the DD should have a good amount of burn in and I can post better impressions. 😬😃

Said it perfectly with the whole "romanticism" as if the experience of working with its hardware elevates the resolution.

The reality is no "good recordings" can match today's production with much better adc chips in microphones (analog to digital converter) with better software and hardware to process through all the masterings required in studio.

vinyl rips are ok say 5-10 ears ago imo. Nowadays the noise and artifacts are too much with current iems

It looks a little bulky for me. I think I am going to be more interested in Perpetua or Advar. But, I will try it.
