I agree with you. I've had mine for 20 years with my Equinox cable and the damn things just sing.

Lets see if anybody can help me figuring out which version i have.

-Raised name plate Made in Ireland.
-Fabric screen, blueish dark (basically not exactly black)
-The driver color is kinda beige, not really transparent, not sure if all of them have the same color.

Im guessing its a late 3rd since it doesnt have a white screen but neither its paper like the earlier versions (?). Would like to get a second opinion, since there is so many confussion

Yes, in the terms of this thread, it's a late 3rd generation.

Sorry, I'm an extremely intermittent poster here..

but

I'm listening to Charlie Byrd on my ancient HD580s via my Dragonfly Red as I type..
I have no need for any other headphone.
There might be 0.01% on some vector that I could improve on, but they are just great listening..

I had mine up for sale (with 712) as i was curious about 650 and 58x but buyer backed out, so i guess after some more time i'm happy I keep them :D. Mine don't have accessive mid bass bloat and treble is good. Sweet mids.

Recently got a brand new 580 and took it apart to compare with my first pair. Both are raised name plates made in Ireland.

My first pair is on the left, new pair on the right. Looks and feels like the silk screen is a different material. I assume the left one is a 3rd gen. I've read posts saying the 4th gen has a silver screen? Mine is still black (it is a little lighter black, but not as gray as it looks in the photo, that is caused by my cameras flash). Could it be due to age? One is well worn while the other is brand new.

how would you say how they compare

The HD58x use the same driver as the HD598 not the one from HD580.
The HD6xx uses the driver from HD580, HD600 and HD650 althogh the sound from these three headphones is tuned a little different.
Keep the HD580.

I own a Made in Germany 2nd gen one and it's my all time favourite.
I also own several other which also sound very good but not perfect xD.

So if I get the HD6xx I'll get the same sound like the HD580?

No the Massdrop HD6xx is a slightly modified version pf Sennheiser's HD650 which has a rather different sound signature to the HD580.

I sold off my old pair....developed ebola and of course had to have it back like immediately!! How could I have been so foolish as to part with my hd580?
Madness!

Oh well...I rebought it back again...now in wonderfully purple and matte black finish:)
Out of my Valhalla 2 it makes me think..again and again..what in the blue feck do I need the 9 other headphones in my apartment for?
