after listen with Listrid 2.0 i compared now this with Beta 2.0 and i am thorn apart.

for what is worth here are my findings:

Listrid 2.0 - makes more punch, tightens sub bass and bass, adds bit euphoric signature, more presence in music, guitar riffs pop at you, stage moves closer to you and musical transients become more colorful. minuses - adds bit digital artifacts especially in treble, small drop in stage as instruments move closer to each other, overly aggressive micro detailing.

Beta 2.0 - smoother, refine, trebles silky smooth, black space is indeed black and instruments are well placed, stage widens and deepens, bit more laid back and easier flowing. minuses - bass loses body and punch, less separation between mid bass and bass transients, subtle drop in dynamic.

So it all depends IF and WHAT you prefer.

For myself I went back to Beta 2.0 which has better synergy for me and i do not tolerate even a slightest smallest sign of digital shade (which is not anything bad with Listrid 2.0) even IF this means punchier meatier low and mid bass... so that's me.

It was REALLY DIFFICULT to decide which one :frowning2:

PS: do not beat me, i am only the piano player :-D

If the X3 can compete with stock AK100 with iem that is quite complimentary

Only sound-wise it is comparable though.  AK trumps it in all other non-sound aspects.

But really for its price, I think it is a very compelling proposition.  We are talking about X3 at 200, stock AK100 at 550, and RWAK mod at another 250 (800!) to get better sound.....

I agree on all counts.

For me, the decision process / options would look like this:

  1. No amp, budget < $800 - buy X3 and be very happy
  2. Already have an amp and happy using a stack, budget up to $650 - AK100 and be slightly happier
  3. Have up to $1000 to spend - RWAK100 (or equivalent modded AK100) and have full flexibility to amp or not amp plus use any earphones / headphones. Be set for quite a while until the bug bites and you go for RWAK100-S or AK120, or whatever marvel arrives next!

My AK100S has shipped, thanks Vinnie!

Expect it on Tuesday as public holidays here, Monday
size]

I discussed with Vinnie and decided to have my AK100S attenuated to 1Vrms, output ISO the standard 2Vrms as I am only using it with portable amps and wanted to have lots of play on the volume pot in these amps......will see next week if this is a good decision and report back.

A huge thanks to Vinnie and his flexibility/patience in accommodating my wishes and explaining all the pros and cons of my request!!!

Pictures......... Many many pictures please.........

where can i buy AK100 cheap to send this for S mod to Vinnie? also i would want some other color, red or silver or gold :frowning2:

The price really hasn't budged at all.  I was expecting the AK100 pricing to be more "flexible", since the release of the AK120.  But alas, so far, I'm wrong.  At least that's the way it is here in the US.  No cool colors in the US either.....

Just updated my AK100 Gold to v2.01... and... now im spoilt for choices.

Classical with v2.01 sounds much better. however, with jazz, blues, or oldies (The Carpenters), Listrid 2.0 sounds better tho.

and now im thinking, if it is possible to have dual boot system for the AK100... so I can switch between Listrid 2.0 and v2.01
